@OVTune, maybe I missed it but how do we know which file we have? Also, are TSB ECU transmission updates needed before the tune or not?

A member this morning mentioned to us Toyota has yet another calibration update, supposedly to fix the "shutter." I'll compare this later to see if it's anything new.

I've never seen a car with so many required OEM tune updates before. Did Toyota release this truck only half finished?

There is 04b00, update 04b01, update 04b02 (trans shift) update 04b03...and now something again?

Anyways stay tuned while we figure out what Toyotas doing

Yes, they focused on aesthetics and emissions. It's like the 16/17s were Alpha releases, except we didn't know we were testing them for $35-40k. Assembly was a train wreck, transmissions way underfilled, dry joints, leaks, vibrations, leaky rear diffs, loose hoods, howling, CKP sensors, oily MAFs, loose / leaky intake hoses, and that's before you ever get to the half-baked copy/paste ECU...

    Always in process

I sent you my tune files on Wednesday and the dealer told me they updated something in the transmission when I was in for service earlier that day. That was supposedly to fix a "shutter" even though the service writer couldn't tell me exactly what it was...

Did I have this new mysterious transmission update installed?

On that.... would we expect to see the 2018's with these updates/tsb's
    already applied?

@OVTune ......Can the OV tune apply them?

Yet Tacoma is still the best "midsize" truck option out there. Even with all the shortcomings that some Tacos have and the ones that All the 3rds have, I would not want any of the other offerings. The GM twins, Nissan, and Honda (for those looser definitions of "truck") do nothing for me and all have far more shortcomings.

And...that's why many of us put up with it. I need a midsize truck for a variety of reasons, but can't go full size comfortably in the city so Taco it is... and I enjoy driving it after spending months troubleshooting and fixing stuff myself. but the fact I had to do that was disappointing and I'm sure I'm not alone there. but anyhow, this will quickly continue to go off-topic.

So I respectfully agree there isn't really any solid competition in the space right now to unseat the Taco

All of these updates only apply to the automatics correct? Or is there updates to the manuals too?

I've read as many pages of the 165 pages available as I can, but can't read them all, and haven't found what I'm looking for.

So, apologies if this has been asked, but will Toyota ever release an ECU mod/update that has same effect as OVTunes? Personally, I wouldn't mind paying $765 for something like this, but my wife on the other hand...

Also, any idea how this effects warranty?

    Working on it.
So I finally got around to reading my ecu and sending it in this morning. Pretty easy process. I am in no real hurry as it is a work in progress so I am looking forward to v 1.02 and the updated trans tune.

Working with dev to make TSB CUW files flushable so everyone can update if needed, and I can apply other updates through the BIN.

On the dyno right now will have more info soon

Yes you can. I believe in you.

    No, highly unlikely.

It's recommended to reflash the ECU with the stock tune before any visits to the dealer.

I cannot wait to hear you manual guys say you like what the tune did for you. I'm considering trading in for a manual Pro but don't like how all the manual guys say the throttle sucks.

I'm waiting as well. Tired of no throttle when you initially push the pedal then rev hang between every gear.

A couple have already chimed in about that.. the throttle response seems to be good now.

    @St.Germain ?

    @lapoltba ?

@OVTune So if a truck still had the first (original) calibration from the factory, OVTune is able to update the truck with the latest calibrations without having the dealer do it?

Last we heard, OV Tune was looking at the rev hang issue too. Keeping fingers crossed it will be eliminated in ver 1.02. From The OP:

    Manual Transmission Vehicle

Manual transmission owners should be happy to hear that calibrating this is much easier than the automatic!
We have already tested and confirmed 16 way Torque manipulation controls without any Torque of i-Throttle errors
complete control over ALL target throttle angles simplified into a single 3D map - 100% confirmed

Complete control over calculated torque for throttle opening - 100% confirmed
    Complete Valve Timing Control
Complete ignition control (including stepper / multiplication control)
    Complete fueling control
Complete Maximum allowable Torque 16 way control - 100% confirmed
(the information in bold is especially important due to the complexity of the calibration to make this work flawlessly. This is TBA on the automatic for complete implementation since throttle logic is different)

    upcoming update 1.02:
Per gear rev limit - (testing)
    Rev hang (testing)
    Idle ignition stability
valve timing Cam / control update

Valve Timing Cam Control Update - Our alpha calibration is designed for stock or mostly stock vehicles looking to maximize potential power by calibrating effective throttle ranges, with mild tune enhancements. Something important to note on our Alpha calibration is that we only modify the EXHAUST camshaft timing, but the INTAKE camshaft is what controls cylinder filling. Our next update for both the automatic and manual transmission vehicles will have enhanced valve timing with both camshafts calibrated for more power. :)
