I've searched and searched but couldn't find a thread about which fuse to tap into to provide power with the truck off.

I'm planning on adding 2 add a fuses, 1 for switched power, 1 for constant power. I tested the fuses behind the coin tray but none seem to be powered with the ignition off. I tested using a Fluke multimeter and touching the leads to each side of the exposed metal on the fuses.

What 2 fuses do I need to use for switched and constant in a 2013?

I have my cam hard wired the same way you are looking to do. I can't remember which fuses I used but I'll check at lunch or after work and snap a pic for you

Wouldn't this drain your battery and eventually wear out the sd card with it being on 24/7. Sure it doesn't take too much power, but in the long run I can imagine it being good for the truck, dash cam, or sd card

doesn't draw enough power to drain your battery...unless you left in for a few months without starting the truck, maybe. SD cards are cheap and I don't see this wearing it out very fast.

Most if not every name brand dash cam allows you to set a specific voltage where the cam(s) shut down. I have mine set to turn off when the battery drops to 12.4v I believe. This ensures that your battery will not completely drain, it does however shorten the overall life of the battery itself. I replaced my OEM unit at the 2 year mark. To me, the ability record when parked is worth it.

Run a wire to the fuse box under the hood for always on power.
What voltage does the cam take?
Mine runs on USB power. I bought a 21,000ma USB battery backup. It powers the cam for 2.5 days with microphone on.
128 gig SD card only records 36 hours at 1080P though.
And yes it is very interesting to see and hear what goes on in the parking lots.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
my 2015 has an unused plug in headliner above mirror with a grnd, switched, amd constant. could easily put cam near mirror if you also have those wires already up there.

I think I've got it figured out after much searching and testing using a test light.

The only always on fuse I could find was the 20 amp power door locks. Also I could tap into the black wire on the trailer brake controller plug. It's always on too.

Awesome! Thanks! That is the door lock fuse. Should I run a fuse that corresponds to the dash cam? I've ordered a Blackvue DR490-2CH which comes with the Power Magic Pro box to hardwire it. Both seem to be rated at 1 amp. However, the hardwire kit seems to simply have a cigarette lighter type connector on it. So it would roughly be the same as plugging it into the cigarette lighter?

Great choice. I'm using the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH. I just used the same type of fuse that I tapped to ie two 7.5A in one tap and two 20A in the other.

No worries. Post up a clip once you get it dialed in.
