FYI: the newer versions have a yellowish tint, the older ones(as seen in my picture) are a little more amber.

Thank you! I think the Amber DRL's in the headlight go together pretty good with the grill lights.

I switched from a 4Runner Trail to the TRD Sport. No, larger engine in the 4Runner. 4.0 vs 3.5. Yes, they definitely drive different. Even though the 4Runner is still body on frame (one of the few remaining) it still rides a little more cushy than the Taco. There is definitely more interior room in the front and rear seating areas too. That's about the only thing I wish was the same. I'm a larger than normal (code for overweight) guy though and I am sure most normal sized adults are fine. I also pimp my whips so my seat leans way back. The weight may be more but I think it is very close. The weight distribution on the other hand may be superior as far as traction in the snow is concerned in favor of the 4Runner. I had a Tundra too before the 4RT and the Runner was way better in the snow on my steep driveways. I have dog-bone shaped bladder that you fill with water I used with the Tundra and plan to use with the Taco. It adds nearly 400 lbs without worrying about projectiles coming through the rear window during those sudden stops or rear collisions. Each has its own purpose. Pro's and Con's for both. I like a truck for country life. Oddly enough, even with the smaller engine, the Taco tows more. So that might be the actual answer to which weighs more as that would be the reason.

Just from my perspective though. Others may have other opinions.

I test drive both before buy a Tacoma. To me the Taco has more head room and leg room. That's why we bought it and put a topper on the back.

 

Pro grille, TRD cold air, TRD exhaust, TRD shift knob and weather tech's.

 

Nice! Sure hope my truck is done soon. I had nothing to do after the drop off so now I've tore up the frontyard re-landscaping. I expect to be hauling a few tons of gravel in the next few weeks.

I was okay up until the point the dealership mentioned they derped the badges. Doooh.

 

Interesting how different people fit differently in each....I even thought about somehow lowering the rear of the seat by modifying the brackets where they attach to the floor to make the seat bottom more slanted since there is no option to lower it manually. My 4R had power seats (bottoms) and they were 8 way. The Taco is just 2 way.

Again, I prefer my seat dropped in the back so it is on an angle and the seat back nearly reclined. The way mine is now, there is no way any full size adult could sit in the back seat. Kids yea, but not any adult. My wife has her seat pushed nearly all the way back too. And we are not tall people. i am only 5'-9" and she is 5'-6".

 

Got my C4 braces installed. PERFECT fitment, and beef as hell

 

Because I don't know, what do these do? Obviously add strength but to what and for what purpose? I'm an information junky, even if it doesn't apply to me......

Yeah I'm 6'4" so that was a major deal for me.

According to the Toyota website the Tacoma has 39.7" of head room and 42.9" of leg. And the 4Runner has 38.6" head and 41.7 leg.(sorry I just had to know what they said about it)

I honestly think the the difference is the power seat brackets take up more space.

And I'm with you. I've contemplated pulling the seats out and cutting the brackets down and welding them back together. Just doesn't look like I'd gain a lot from it.

 

Wonder if anyone has tried mounting 4runner power seats in a 3rd gen since Toyota hasn't offered power seats.

I just installed my P2 brake controller with the 3017-p cable in the change cubby - 5 minute job, easy peasy!

 

There are websites dedicated to Tall people concerning modifications to vehicles and one was a mod for just that. Cutting the brackets. Another was for removing some of the foam from the seat. There are sorts of mods. I am ok with the Tacoma, but luckily I have short legs and we don't haul passengers hardly at all. I just know the comfort comparatively speaking is night and day. I feel too like the 4Runner seats sat up higher or maybe that is just psychological because the hood on the Taco Sport has more of a bulge in addition to the scoop whereas the 4R Trail was just a scoop. I know with my seat back far enough to make it possible for a passenger to squeeze in behind me I sill have my left foot all the way at the top of the foot rest on the floor board. I am definitely not regretting the trade from the 4RT to the Taco. I think the Taco is a great looking truck with a lot of character and modding them only makes them more radical looking and especially like each of us, unique.
