Yeah they did that before I rode with the shop manager. All I got from this experience was almost 1/4 less of gas.

Sounds familiar - nothing I had to fix was fixed by the dealer (aside from the warped rotor) b/c "no codes" "your truck's fine"

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this frustration. Annoying on many levels, I know... hang in there.

When they said the same to me with my 2016, I responded, “the weren’t any codes when the transmission was a quart low.”......then silence.

Went in last night to swap out the loaner (rav4 with a Sienna mini van) and the gal helping me gave me the 1800 number to open a case with Toyota. They'll have my truck till Tuesday and I needed the room.

Has anyone had any success replacing the sensor thus fixing this problem? I was told if I replaced the cks/cps and it's later recalled I could be reimbursed but no guarantee it will fix the issue. BTW, this Sienna hauls balls...comparatively speaking.

So I got my vehicle back today. The customer representative acknowledged the stutter is there, which was also written in the paperwork by the tech. They noted that their Tacomas on the lot are also experiencing this issue. Spoke to Toyota headquarters and let them know that I'm having these stuttering issues to which the representative replied "How would you like this resolved?" So, those of us not on a recall list will have to wait patiently for an update.

So I switch from chevron fuel to shell and I haven't gotten any misfire or studdering at all. I keep you guys posted to see if it stays that way.

The issue is not gas related.

    My experience as well.

I replaced the cps sensor on mine (not part of recall) and it did nothing to fix the stuttering issue.

    Same issue here.
17 dcsb off road 4×4. Build date of 6/17
I have the 4b03 ecu flash.
Bought truck with 8 miles. Dealer filled tank.
Every tank after has been 93. After the 1st time I filled it with 93 the stuttering was almost non existent. That lasted for 1/4 tank then slowly went back to stuttering.
For me I can pretty much make it happen anytime. 1500 rpms with slight load until about 1800-2000. Tried 90 non ethanol, same stuff. Changed cks at 400 miles to the 98 version, no difference. She just stumbles and stutters.

Old guy here. Sounds like the engine is lugging. Too low rpm and too much of a load. Can't do too much about this in an automatic thats in 1st gear already. I bet its a timing issue getting too much advance in this range. In the old days timing could be set with a loaded vehicle in high gear up a hill.Advance timing to just below the point where the engine won't pull smoothly. Possibly the OV tune will pull some advance out at that rpm range. Of course toyota likely has the ecu set up for maximum advance and maximum lean for mileage at low cruise rpm. With all the electronics you would think it could be tuned differently in 1st gear to pull smoothly at low rpm.

Probably needs more fuel and less timing. And toyota would probably have to go back and do emissions testing and mileage testing all over again. How much more complicated can it get. VVT,atkinson cycle timing, Port switching back and forth to direct injection. Possibly high output ignition coils might make a difference in getting the mixture fired at low rpm. Had an old dodge truck that acted that way. Changing,mixture/timing made no difference. Tried plugs and wires. Finally put in one of those high output accel coils and that fixed it.

I changed my sensor to the new one and the stutter is worse. mine is 1200- 1500 lug lug lug under light load and cruising speed. They did the recall for engines shutting down on the highway because of this issues.

Talk to an attorney. If you start now youll be ready for a buy back or exchange when the 18's are here or switch to a different vehicle all together.

Toyota F'ed up with the truck and has been dragging ass on the fix/recalls. The rear end and diff isnt because of a slight weeping from the seal and the stutter isnt because of the sensor. its this stupid engine and trans combo that puts undue stress on the ring and pinion blowing it out and trying to run a "truck" at 1000 rpm with retarded engine timing makes for a really expensive truck that drives like a turd

Curious about the strategy/precedent here. Could you expand on this?

It takes time. 6 months to a year. Toyota is being very stubborn with the tacoma because they had a bunch of issues with it. If you recall the prius that wouldnt brake was blamed on a carpet mat for a long time before they were sued due to the deaths.

They dont have a fix for the issue currently and its cheaper to fight our claims at the dealer and push us off than do the right thing.

An attorney will get you money and you can sell or, get a buy back, or a lump sum depending on your cases. If you have taken it for the same thing 4 time or had it in for over 30 days for the same issue then an attorney has a strong case to deal with them. This has legs because they did a recall already for "safety issues" for the CPS and the rear diff.

I have had numerous issues and they try to blow me off.... its bs..
