    How have your 8.5" wide wheels been at holding a bead with the skinnies? Mine did great at 15 psi on my old 7" wheels, but I just switched to an 8". Curious to hear your experience.

    There was a local guy (western wa) who was bitching about the fact that he popped a bead when he aired down to 15 psi with his 255/80-17 ST maxx's. He is running F5s. :notsure:

    15 is pretty low. Hell i went to 18 and it was too low really. The edge of the rim could hit the rock your crawling over. I always go to 20 with the 255s.

    Agreed. 15 is low. I just found it interesting.

    I think Cooper does not recommend an 8.5" wide wheel with those tho.

    no i believe its an 8''.

    But, i've never had issues at 20psi.

    Damn, I go lower than 13 psi most of the time with my 255 and 8" wheels. Only time I blew a bead was while winching and pulling the tire sideways. Only hit the rim once too while snow bashing. Had no idea the rock was there and it hit on the outside of the tire so there wasn't a whole lot of support from the rest of the tire. When everything is dry though it's easy to see what's approaching and slow down.

    Thanks for the info, guys. 16's here as well. 15psi was fine on the last wheels, but I'll probably bump to 18 at first. See how that does and adjust accordingly.

    You really do not want your rears to lock up before the fronts. If the rears lock up before the fronts, you lose all stability in the back of the truck...it would be downright dangerous if you had to make a panic stop on the highway and the rears locked up but not the fronts. It would axle hop and generally be a mess really quickly. For the sake of the other people on the road around you, do not adjust your brakes so that they do that.

    Couldn't disagree more. Not for my needs. Going down hill on loose gravel at speed you want the rear to grab. Right now the front over powers which cause the rear to swing out uncontrolled. Has caught me by surprise a few to many times that could have cause a roll over.

    You couldn't be more wrong though. You're talking about one specific situation out of a million where the rears building a wedge on lockup will keep the truck pointed straight. Any other surface and it will be less stable, especially on the highway where you can fuck up somebody else's life instead of your just your own. Having the rears lock up first is incredibly unsafe almost all of the time.

    Well we aren't talking about way before. I'm talking just before the front. The new Tundra brakes are so much more powerful then the rears.

    It's no different then when you load up a stock tacoma the rear brake proportioning valve activates more rear braking.

    Not as much as I want. But it's no different.


    On top of that. I can change it any time I want. I wouldn't run it that way all the time. But when the rear is full of 300 lbs of gear for wheeling. You bet your butt I want the rear to lock first.

    It's completely different from what the proportioning valve does. Normal brake bias is about 70/30 on a Tacoma and when the proportioning valve is maxed out it drops to about 60/40 to account for the extra weight and grip in the rear. The fronts will still lock up before the rear if it is loaded up, it just moves braking force proportionally to the load...hence the name.

    What you want and what is correct is a whole world apart.... Just stay away from me any everybody else on the highway with your lack of understanding of braking systems and vehicle dynamics.

    all i know is my rear brakes don't do shit. The front lock up way way to soon. Cause the front to lock and then understeer and the ass end isn't slowing down enough cause it to walk out behind me.

    in an uncontrolled fashion.

    Id rather be able to induce over steer
