These seats suck. Especially the fixed recline bench. Does anybody know if seats from the FJ, 4-Runner or Lexus GX bolt up?

My father in law has a first generation Tacoma with a bench seat. It's like sitting on a piece of plywood. My first Toyota truck had bucket seats so this was a priority on my new Toyota truck. I don’t understand why Toyota got rid of the bucket seats on the 2009 regular cab SR5. The bucket seats along with the tilt steering and the five speed turn the driving experience into something more along the line of a sports car than a truck.

say i did want to swap out my bench seat some time..
do i need any special hardware? will any other style 05+ taco seat fit?
is everything pretty universal or will i be starting from the ground up and drilling into my floor?

Your first clue should have been looking in the window at the time and seeing that bench seat. Picnic table benches are more appealing than Toyota's P.O.S. !

There are companies that make seat mounts for specific vehicles but from my experience they usually mount the seats up higher than stock. I was low on headroom when the truck was new so that wasn't on option for me.

On my truck we pulled the seats, pounded the floorpan flat, and bolted through the floor. The inside two bolts on each seat lined up with the frame so I'm attached directly to the frame of the truck these days. The floor was reinforced where the outside bolts went through to make sure nothing pulled through.

Unless you go through the hassle of moving seat position and weight sensors from the stock to the aftermarket seats and mounts, expect the airbag light to be staring you in the face anytime you're behind the wheel.
