Firearm BS thread

I'm looking at ordering a SxS 12g for mainly S&G as well as a last ditch home defense to keep in my walk in closet. So nothing fancy at all is needed as it ain't going to be a show piece. A Stoeger runs about $400 and some change while the CIA clone is $200 and some change.

Anyone have experience with either one?

 

Hey guys have had my new S&W M&P Shield 9mm for a few days now and was thinking about getting a CCW here in California (Orange County). About 9 months out of the year I will be in Arizona so I can conceal carry without a permit but having a CCW helps you do more things. Has anyone gone through this process in Orange County? If so how long and how easy was it to get?

 

Finally put the new scope on. Here she is in her possible final set down. I had to mill out the center of the base to clear the turret block and reblued it , The clearance is about .006 thousandths.

thinking about it and will be getting mine over in az but the one here takes so long to do and i am just not here for very long and you need a reason to why you want it and its only for whatever gun you register etc such a PITA maybe next summer I will try

 

Not sure what I want to do with this one guys, I'm thinking either a drop in rail and keep the A2 FSB (or install a YHM folding FSB) or install a FF rail and cut down the FSB.
It'll be a suppressor host, have a 1-6 optic on it, and a light.

 

My cz455 just got delivered today. Of course I can't pick it up until tuesday because of work though.

 

Do a sorta MK18 rail in the front and keep the FSB IMO. I dont know why but i always liked that look and itll probably be what i do with my SBR 556 whenever i get around to doing it.

I like the free float with no FSB too, just something about a FSB on a SBR'd 556 i like though

 

I'd put a carry handle on it. That would look badass shorty A2 style.

 

I love the look of the A2 FSB on these short guns but I hate the cowitness with a red dot.

I did some quick googling and with a 1-6 scope I can have BUIS, at 1x the FSB will be visible but will fade away as magnification increases.
I'll probably go with a drop in quad rail (Love the look of those, especially with a handstop or VFG, and some rail panel covers) and if the FSB bothers me I'll switch to the YHM folder.

 

Hmmmm, an old school Commando clone would be epic, especially with a vietnam era paint job.
I may have to get another 11.5 upper to build into that.

 

Received and installed the new Black/Silver Pyramid trigger in my custom build.

 

I actually forgot I have a AR (16" barrel though) with a FSB and a 1-4 on it. I do remember now that at 1x it co-witnessed and any more zoom it wasnt visible. I didnt mind that setup at all.

A Commando clone is another of my short list AR builds. Ive just kind of stopped caring to much about the AR's right now and been focusing on other stuff.

 

Great day at the range today. Actually starting to prefer shooting with irons vs my scope. Just like the challenge of it. Anyone else prefer irons to a scope?

 

Well had a surprise delivery! Not that Im complaining since its a signature required and having to hold at location, drive there after work, blah blah sucks.

But got the "big brother" to the Rasheed....the Egyptian Hakim. Kind of the reverse condition wise than the rasheed but still in pretty dang good condition. The stock is amazing for an old rifle. The metal parts...show wear. (the rasheed on the other hand had great metal but a worn stock)




On another note both were bought on gunbroker and both were opposite experiences. The Rasheed i won the auction, paid with credit card, emailed my FFL-03 all within 20 minutes of winning. 10 minutes later I had a tracking number from the seller. Item arrived packaged awesomely (he used a gun case in card board, the guncase had some damage previously to the latches which is hwy im sure he used it).

The Hakim on the other hand. Messaged the guy before buying since he only took certified check and USPS money orders. He was fast to answer, great to work with, confirmed all the info, ect. Got the check and my FFL-03 in the mail the next day and thankfully got tracking. Was delivered three days later. A week went by with not hearing from him so I sent him another message....nothing. 3 more days go by...nothing. Another 3 days and again nothing. Finally after three more days sent a message saying if i didnt hear back Ill be contacting gunbroker and my bank to cancel the payment. 10 minutes later he messages me back finally saying he got my stuff and would ship that same day. Few hours later i got the tracking info. Rifle just got here today and is missing a piece (front barrel band screw) which wasnt mentioned in the ad. Thankfully its a cheap part so I just ordered one rather than dealing with him.

Just kind of interesting how different my first two gunbroker purchases were.

Can your really call yourself a shooter if you can't shoot irons? As my eyes have gotten older, I've had to switch to peeps to still get decent groups past 100 yards. I've always liked and used peeps, but once you get to a certain age, they almost become a necessity. I no longer shoot past 300yds with open sights, but back in the day...

Sadly, the younger generation is losing the skill. My son is a Marine and has never shot in the Marines with open sights. Thankfully he was taught at a young age.

 

Depends on 1) the gun and 2) what im shooting for. My eye sight isnt the best (wear glasses) and have a stigmatism so irons can be a bit funky. But when shooting old mil-surp guns...no problem with irons. If its an AR...i prefer optics. Same goes for if im shooting for groups im using an optic. If im just banging steel...whatever im shooting is what ill use.

 

Finally built my 80% glock, complete except for trijicon suppressor height night sights, light, and a small detail that most of y'all should spot quickly.
