Since I'm laid up and can't ride, took advantage of where I'm at and went to explore Rocky Mountain State Park. WOW, unbelievable scenery. Saw several Moose on my hike and a big herd of Elk at around 11,500 feet. Topped out the drive at about 12,100 feet. All in all, pretty great day! Also pretty cool to see the Colorado river headwaters, nothing more than a little creek

Side note, hiking with a 40lb pack, severely bruised hip and a broken rib at elevation, challenging! In case you all were wondering

Just a mountain bike trip with some buddies. Mixed in some off roading while I was at it as well as a stop at fj summit. Went to Durango, crested Butte and Winter Park. The majority of the trip was spent in CB which is one of my most favorite places in the country. So scenic, endless mountain bike and off roading and such a cool local vibe. Not a single big box or corporate owned anything. Logged a lot of pavement and dirt miles on this trip, lots of mountain passes, river crossings and puckering high exposure mining roads. Tried to make the most of my time up here

Sorry, didn't see this til just now.

Going to try to leave the house as early as I can kick the kids out of bed, hit MickyD's for food and head toward AJ.

Since I have my girls this weekend, it could be a bust so I'm not promising anything! They both got burnt like little pieces of ginger toast outside today because the Boys and Girls club they were at for summer had a "last summer school water day", which originally was $10 extra bucks per kid. I opted out because I knew they would get burnt but apparently someone at the school decided to let ALL the kids outside and join in. They had fun, sure. Also zero sunblock, no shade and their clothes got soaked so they both got rashes on their legs. I was pissed and said it's cool when you want to include everyone but maybe CALL THE PARENTS so we know what the fuck is going on? B&GC is by far the cheapest option for after school care and summer camp/day care but they are pretty slack on a lot of shit.

Anyways, I've been sunburnt like them before and I know how shitty it feels. They could both be in terrible moods and I may say fuck it but who knows.
Crossing fingers the promise of egg mcmuffins will get them moving before 7 and be at the trailhead by or prior to 8am. Same side as the TW poker run was which is the one you have to come in off cactus to the gate. I re-upped my permit so I'm good.

Man I can't stand it when people do stuff like that. During the last week of school this year the 5th grade kids were allowed to walk to the park that's about a mile from the school. Not a big deal, but when my kid knocked on the door to be let in and was all sorts of red and had no water I got pissed. They didn't have any transportation to get the kids back and because they were away from the school they all missed the bus. So my kid walked home. It was hot as he'll outside too.

Sounds like it could be a plan. I get off of work at 6 so I could probably make it. Depends on how tired I am after tonight. My permit is good to go also. I'm familiar with all the entrances but haven't heard of one off of cactus road?
