The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

Guess we where both wrong.

 

Ended up drinking the Funky Buddha French Toast. It was good, but nothing I would rant and rave about.


I did however find FB's Wide Awake It's Morning on tap at a local bar. Its the imperial version of Maple Bacon Coffee Porter and it was amazing. If you ever see it anyplace, I would 100% recommend it. The hunt now begins to find a bottle of it.

 

Two weeks ago I was in Scotland, traveling by boat up Loch Ness. About 2/3 the way up, there is an old inn (The Loch Ness Inn, go figure) where we stopped for lunch. There I had Lock Ness "Malty Ness" beer. It's an amber, but tastes much more like a dark beer. I also sampled "Dark Ness", which is the best damn chocolate stout I've ever had. If you ever get a chance to try these beers, take it. Best brews I have ever tried in my life.

 

Beer over there is in a different League.
You'll find some of the best in the world over there!
For us to find something that hear and for it to still be as good as when you have had it would be hard, you'd have to know somebody to ship something you.

 

Always enjoy sampling the local flavors when traveling. A grapefruit IPA. Neither bad or great. But very welcome after getting off a cramped plane.

 

Later that night found a Pizza joint / brewery. Sampled most all their brews but nothing wow'd me.

 

Stoked when I come across a cream ale in a brewery.

Good way to tell the quality of ingredients and process with a light ale like that.

What do you look for in a light ale?

 

Nothing! Like it should taste like barley and a little corn and nothing else. Hard to hide flaws (like low quality ingredients or process flaws) in such a light beer.

IPA's on the other hand can hide all kinds of things... Also anything with a lot of specialty malts.

Sooooo you like the bread like taste in the lighter beers?
Compared to like the dirty water taste of bud light

 

Its more like grapenuts i think but yeah kinda. I think homebrewing helps me... because I've made enough flawed beer I can taste them now.

Also experimenting with ingredients helps distinguish the quality and such. Use low quality grain and taste it in the beer, in my experience.

 

Nice surprise with this one. Malty and well balanced, plenty of flavor.

Real nice blonde ale. A bit citrusy. Just what I was hoping for in this beer

It was 2/$4 at my local sprouts. Went to grab a ribeye to BBQ and saw the deal and said fuck ya. It's a nice smooth blonde ale. Real good
