I want that kind of price! I'm having a difficult time tracking down a long bed quicksand with the same options as yours...

Obviously drive out 35k would be awesome, but I'm realistic. Didn't think I wanted the tech package, but the more I thought about it, the more I see it coming in handy.

I'm in northern Illinois looking for a manual trans Dbl Cab TRD off Road truck. I have only talked to one dealer who said they would charge invoice. I figured for a Tacoma that's good but it looks like it might not be. What have other guys experienced?

I picked up mine at St. Charles Toyota, I think there is a quicksand manual TRD OR at Team Toyota in Indiana.

For those of you that went the email route of negotiating, would you mind posting a quick reference draft of what you said? just to get an idea? Im not really sure what to say, or how to start it.. if it should be long, short or just blunt and straight to the point.

Would St Charles beat invoice pricing on that truck?

2017 DCLB, V6 w/ 6 speed auto, 4x4, TRD OR with tow package in Quicksand. Had a couple of other little extras I'm forgetting too (no tech package tho). Paid $36k before taxes/title/doc fee.

Sticker was $37900ish, I initially offered $35k, but they said they really don't have any problem selling the DCLB TRDs for near sticker (big trucks are pretty popular around here), and came back at $36k. Guessing I still could have knocked some off since they came back at such a round number, but I didn't really feel like doing the negotiation thing anymore. They had the exact truck I wanted and I wanted to get on the road. They did offer me a pretty sweet deal on an SR5 DCLB 4x4 that was a good bit below sticker, but I had my heart set on the TRD.

Didn't do as well as some here, but I was just happy to finally find the exact truck I wanted and it was at the dealership less than 10 mins from my house.

What was the price on the SR5 they offered you? Looking for TRD OR as well but willing to go for a SR5 for a good price. Quicksand or graphite are my top choices.

I think the sticker was $35k and some change and they offered it at $32k. Don't remember what all the options were, but it was a really solid deal. I knew from looking online that they had it on the lot for a while. The TRD DCLB I ended up getting wasn't even on the website yet, I just happened to call to check their inventory and the sales guy mentioned they had just gotten it in the day before.

The SR5 was in Magnetic Gray Metallic which I wasn't a huge fan of in person compared to the quicksand.

I don't recall seeing too many folks getting that model truck for much under invoice. I could be wrong though.

99% sure I'm gonna pull this trigger on this. Gonna email one more dealership to see if they can beat the price. Been going fast and furious emailing over the last two days trying to take advantage of end of the month deadlines knowing the 18s will be showing up soon.

'17 TRD OR DCLB 4x4 AT w/ Tech package including JBL in Quicksand for $35,850 plus TTL. Stickers for $42k.

Thanks. I was just wondering, had a dealer say they sell the Tacoma for invoice minus incentives, but no incentives so I was going to trade in my 2015 GT/pp on something way more functional and family friendly.

"Hello, My name is Dave, I'm in the market for a new truck and wanted to reach out to you guys to give you guys the opportunity to put me in that truck. The truck I'm looking for is...

Tacoma SR5 (list EXACTLY what you want, BE SPECIFIC)

Do you guys currently have the truck on the lot or could you get it for me?

If so what is the price you guys are advertising on that truck?

    Thank You
    Dave"

I sent emails to 40 dealers.

My process took two weeks, I was firm on what I wanted let it be known that I'm not answering any phone calls, I'm not coming in to look at anything until a price is near where I want. I was down to 20 dealers really quickly. Getting to 10 took alot longer and getting to 3 was quick just because once you reach a
certain point you'll find dealers bowing out because they don't have it on the lot, they can't get it cheaply, they just don't want to sell it cheap.

I made an excel sheet that tracked MSRP's given, initially quoted prices, and best offers and updated it as the process went on.

    I eliminated all dealers who...

spammed my email with info on other vehicles, I MADE IT CLEAR WHAT I WANT, YOU ARE ONLY INSULTING ME BY BULLSHITTING ME

dealers who made me talk to 7 different people.

You have a ton of leverage, literally all the leverage.

My entire follow ups were courteous and all but all I basically said was "I just got an offer from so and so they gave me this price, can you beat it?"

In my experience you will get great quotes early on, that's great and all BUT CONFIRM THAT THESE OFFERS ARE EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, IF THEY ARE THEN YOU'RE GOLDEN.

The dealer I bought my truck from gave me a good quote right off the bat, was honest and up front, I dealt with one single person. They were not pushy. He gave me all information I asked for in a timely manner and in the end he beat my best price by $100 bucks and I was in. I put a deposit on my vehicle went to pick it up and I spent 0 time on the phone and 1 hour on in the dealership and I had a truck at 10% below MSRP and 7% below the average initial offer I was given by all the dealers.

Have fun with it, again YOU HAVE ALL THE LEVERAGE. I was in Pennsylvania, it's not as hard to get good deals as it is in other areas of the country.

 wow thanks a lot, that was actually incredibly informative, I really appreciate it!
So, I noticed you said you gave a deposit. I imagine you did it before getting there just to secure it right? and you did it all online?

Ive never really done the email thing so I'm very excited :yay:

The feeling I got from the process was that I kept myself at a distance from the dealer at all times. I never allowed them to gain the upper hand on me.

I guess I misspoke, I did actually call my sales guy to place the deposit. He threw $500 on a credit card for me to secure the vehicle til I could get there. End up getting 10 bucks in rewards for that anyway.

just to add, make sure you create a burner email account for the purpose of your vehicle search. Beacause for two weeks I was averaging about 50 emails a day. Mostly dealer propaganda and you don't want that shit blowing up your inbox for the next few years.

    Best of Luck

17 OR Tech/Prem/JBL MSRP $40,622, Invoice $37,237.....OTD $39,747 about $200 below invoice. (WV tax is 6%, plus fees)

I got a lot of last minute calls from dealers I had contacted asking about a Pro that might have beat that by a little. If you walked into a dealer tomorrow you could probably make a great deal, inventory is high, end of the month.

Nice truck. I'm in WV and I paid 5% sales tax back in November 2016. They must of raised it to 6% in 2017.
I bought a TRD off road without the tech package and paid $34,500 before taxes with a MSRP of $37k.
That's a really good deal. My local dealership has over 50 tacomas in stock so they are definitely trying to move them before the 2018s hit the lot in the next month or so.
