5 years as an EMT, 3 years as an ER tech at a level 1 trauma center, and 1.5 years as a volunteer FF. Going to school for wildlife management to be a game warden.

In the last year, we acquired a Lucas device at the ER. It's a great tool if you don't focus on attaching it until you can move the pt without hindering another procedure. You focus on high quality CPR, and put the Lucas on once the pt is intubated, lines placed, etc. It has it's place, but it isn't the end all of CPR...yet.

We see a lot of k2 patients, and the current batch is killing people again. The current batch has some sort of betablocker in it that makes the pt's BP resistant to a couple liters of fluid. Levo seems to help. Nearly every batch has seemed to make the pt have a seizure, but this current batch is throwing people into status epilepticus...combined with the Texas heat...come in with 105+ temps and a BP in the 50s. I'm not looking forward to treating Carfentanyl when it starts hitting the streets here...

We have the Lucas vest style. Way smaller than the old Thumpers.

So far my county has almost 700 overdoses with over 80 fatal.

I bought Haix, but then we started getting issued the Globes. Nice boots. Either one has so much better fir and support than rubber boots.

3 inches, Ray10s, 34s, OVTuning, and driver mod for now.
I wear Globe and Haix structure boots and Haix station boots which are all really good in my opinion, I also have a pair of the rubber units that only get used as an at home much boot!

It's nasty. It's killed a cop already, and while I don't know the final result. I know it dropped 2 medics north of me, I want to say a month or two ago?

Then it hit my county two / three weeks ago. (Half asleep not sure what day it is) we had our exposure here. Few towns over had a traffic stop about a week later, found a significant amount of Carfentanyl laced heroin.

Medic from New Mexico here. Been in the field for almost 10 years. I won't lie there are days that I regret choosing this field due to the things I've seen, but for the most part I love what I do, and helping make a difference here.

4 of our first 5 today were MVCs. One was a child that got ran over and another one was an individual who cut a power pole in half and took out a fire hydrant. Another 8 hours to go too.

Just curious do any of ya'll have to hold the wall at the ER waiting on beds? Seems our city is the only one in the state where that happens constantly every day. I held the wall once for 6 hours.

Holy cow! There's no way that would fly here. Greenville Memorial Hospital is the Level 1 trauma center to go to, as well as the speciality hospital in our area. (Burns get flown to Atlanta though)
No one would be allowed to wait more than 30 minutes. But if there is a wait, they'll divert you way prior to your arrival when you called in report.

We have 2 hospitals now, used to be 3 but one bought the other one out and closed it. We also have a Military hospital but it's rare now that we transport there. We used to never wait but then it started and has gotten worse and worse. We're already at a disadvantage anyway because a average call for us is 3 hours from station back to station. We run 4 trucks and cover 464 sq. miles with them. You get 3 trucks holding the wall at a hospital and to scene times go to shit with 1 truck covering that much territory. We end up running mutual aid to the next county too because they only have one truck to cover their entire county. Doesn't do any good to divert to the other hospital because they are loaded down with trucks too.

More and more people are using the ER for primary care. At my hospital, we put your pt onto our stretcher, chair, or waiting room asap to get the ambo back into circulation. In three years here, I've never seen a medic wait more than 15 min to give report. 95% of the time, you immediately have somewhere to drop them.

I would put the patient in a chair behind the nurses desk. See how long they ignore you then.

Being in a large department with many resources and hospitals to choose from, we have the advantage. In the late '90's, one of our larger trauma centers were being very uncooperative. The nurses would make us wait forever for a bed. For two weeks we brought them nothing but homeless drunks. Soon the head of trauma found out we were diverting traumas to another center and he started disciplining the staff for making us wait for unreasonable amount of time.

Two years ago I would've never thought I'd say this... but ya'll are really making it hard for me to miss working on an ambulance.

Don't get me wrong. There are aspects I miss. But that's about 2% of the job. The other 98% nah. Not one bit.
