1501348437864955717342.jpg My attempt to put 285 75 16s with 9" wide -12 offset wheels on stock suspension has been foiled yet again. I did the cmc this morning and planned on heating up the wheel liner and pushing it out of the way. Turns out the back of the front wheel well has the cab pinch weld right behind it. F**********k me.

Is there any structural importance to this though?

    Does the hi-lift mount fit a 60"?

What did you paint the bumper with?

Added a LEER 100XR. I think I'm going to take those stickers off the back of it. I can definitely feel the added weight but it makes for a smoother ride.

Front mudflaps (if you have them) will rub under certain conditions. Over time, this can loosen your fender flares.

Imminent Cooling Failure Mod - Thanks to @Peanut83

As he stated in his OP, that you can find here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/imminent-cooling-failure.476201/, if you look under the hood you may spot a design flaw by Toyota.

I was detailing under the hood when I finally spotted what he was talking about.

    IMG_0416.jpg

If you look under the Engine Cover, you will see that our intake plenum is supported by steel brackets, one of those brackets is rubbing directly on the upper line to the water inlet housing.

    IMG_0417.jpg

    IMG_0418.jpg

Toyota has kindly placed some plastic braided sleeve in the area but unfortunately mine is showing some wear 10 months in. Just like many others that have taken it amongst themselves to be proactive, I too, would hate to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere on one of my adventures with an overheating problem. Therefore, I removed the bracket.

    IMG_0419.jpg

    Before:

    IMG_0420.jpg

    Now:

    IMG_0421.jpg

    Then I reinstalled the bracket.

    IMG_0422.jpg

    IMG_0423.jpg

You can see the discoloration that had started with the slight rubbing of the two. Now I have a 1/4" of space between the two. I hope this helps another Tacoma owner from getting stranded in a bad situation just like OP stated. I highly recommend you checking yours and being proactive. Thanks again @Peanut83

I avoid the Toyota dark metallic paints. If you live surrounded by brush, that happens. Made me want to get away from my Gen2 dark metallic blue OR before it's time. Quicksand seemed the answer to being brush and mud and road-dust friendly. Then again, it's a truck, and a hard-working truck always rules.

Update to Curt front end receiver: I've added the tech specs here- it's a 2-inch class III hitch receiver, but is rated at 9000lbs straight line pull- perfect to add your winch on a receiver mount, add a plow, or push your trailer around tight corners.

With the front wheels turned to a certain point, on a slope while going over a rock or curb, you may still find that mudguard rub.

That happened to my 1st gen too- going down hill on a tight turn and having to brake. It also shortened my turn radius on regular streets - a terrible choice of tires on my part.

Good choice. I don't like what the weight of a heavy bumper and winch does to the front suspension over bumps at speed. This way you can run the winch front or rear when appropriate, and keep the weight stashed nearer the center of the truck when not.

Well said. What philosophy desires to make all people and critters who come after us the victims of our laxness.

Looks like a great trip and a perfect rig for it. Enjoy seeing these great Tacomas do what they were meant to. Enjoy those beautiful mountains, some of the finest country on earth, and heal fast.
