Clean VHF/CB radio installs

What radio is that? Very slim. I like that.

 

I run the same radio. It's a Yaesu FTM-400DR.

 

i'm using a techdeck for my icom 5100. seems pretty sturdy,

 

While searching for mounting ideas I stumbled across a you tube video where someone used a proclip dash mount; and that's what I ended up going with. Clips on to the bezel, no drilling involved (into the dash anyways, I drilled holes into the pro clip mount to better secure the radio and mic mounts with screws). In the picture it kind of looks like the bracket blocks the vent, but it does not, it's angled outwards. I only skimmed my way through the previous 23 pages of posts, so apologies if this setup has been posted before.

Antenna is mounted with a relentless fab bracket.

 

Like to know more about this bracket, underside pics ? Hood works ?

 

Yeah, look up cali raised/Rago fab ditch light brackets. Bolt on hinge bolts underneath. Work great!

@chrisrocks300 lol you should have said something when you bough my skids! You probably have a PA by now but I have 3 all steel weather proof ones that may or may not have come from old crashed cop cars lol! They are like $250+ new and loud as f$#!

Yes, if you remove the plastic panels behind the rear seats, they are right under the window, on each side. You can see the back of them between teh cab and bed.

Looking for a bit of assistance. There's tons of CB/Ham threads out there and I've learned a lot by reading through them, but my purchase decision is based on a clean install as well, so thought I'd ask you guys....
After a bit of research, it seems like a Ham radio with VHF is the way to go, but I would like CB channels included on the unit, assuming that's possible. I'd also like the unit to have a remote faceplate so I can install the 'box' somewhere out of the way. The challenge I am facing is,
1) Terminology: In researching decent Ham radios, "CB channels" are not the correct term when looking at features. What is the correct term, or frequency band I should be looking for to see if that feature is included in a Ham unit?
2) Reliability: I'm guessing there are a few models you all prefer and have come to like? I've seen a few mentioned liked the Kenwood, Yaesu, etc. Why did you buy what you bought?

i have 2 different icoms and a CB (purely because i didn't feel like removing it. and I did the same thing as you, i bought my radio before i even got my license. with that being said... no. you can run the CB radio frequencies on a ham radio. you will need a CB for CB frequencies, and HAM for the HAM bands. i love icom, but I wish I would have gotten the yaesu ft857d. great radio

 

You will need to get two separate radios if you want to transmit on both CB and Ham bands. Ham radios are unable to transmit on CB frequencies out of the box. They can be modified to be able to transmit on CB frequencies via a MARS mod, but even if you get that done its illegal to use the Ham radio to transmit on the CB frequencies because the Ham radio is not type approved for that band. You may also run into difficulty tuning a mobile antenna for different HF bands.

If you want to have a radio to communicate with others on UHF/VHF bands and monitor CB frequencies you can use a radio like the yaesu ft857d for that. I have one that I've had in other vehicles but I haven't installed it in the tacoma yet. Still trying to figure out how I want to do the antennas. These radios have banks of memories that you can input the different CB channels into so you can tune to them quickly.

 

Finally got my cb radio hooked up, but am having a problem. I tried tuning it today and on chanel 1 and 40 both times it went to 4 on the meter. I raised and lowered the antenna but it just stayed at 4? Anyone know what could cause this?

 

What is the antenna mounted on? That's a grounding issue
