Let me start by giving all credit to my buddy Steve (CAMZTRD on TW). He is the one who did all of this first, on his own, without my help.

I am just posting this up because I know that if this info had been available 2 years ago when I bought the truck (an SR5 non-TRD) I woulda did this a long time ago.

For starters, the main hood assembly, is not a Toyota OEM part. It's produced by Certifit. We've all heard of them numerous times over the years, but not many of us have made the move. The scoop and other sub-components ARE Toyota OEM parts however. Hopefully, this mini-guide will help some of you guys out.

Start by going to certifit.com and locating a warehouse near you. 26 locations, one's bound to be close (closest for us was Raleigh, NC. 210 miles south). If not for some of you west-coaster's out there, I was told by my salesperson that two of their locations actually ships. Don't know what the freight charge'd be, but we had a good road trip for around $100 including a gut-stuffing lunch for two. I'd rather do that again than pay to have it shipped to me.

Back on track. Call to make sure they have one if you're going to drive to pick up. Have them hold one just for you. I think they'll hold it for 5 days.

Price. Steve paid $101 after tax two weeks ago. I got lucky and paid $85.66 after tax. He asked why (of course) and they told him the price just dropped, that simple. When you pick it up, it come's wrapped in a cardboard box that'll fit nicely in the bed of your tacoma. I have a long bed, but Steve had a short bed when he first drove down, both hoods made the trip back fine. No tying down or anything.

The internal hood scoop components. There's 3 pieces needed; PLATE, GUIDE, and the color matched SCOOP (pre-painted from factory). We got ours from Toyotapartsoutlet.com's OEM part's store LINK. You can search yourself but here was my receipt for $127.02 total

    Items Ordered:
Item: Hood, Hood and components, Scoop, Plate, Plate
    Price: $15.28
    Tax: $0.00
    Qty: 1
    Total: $15.28

Item: Hood, Hood and components, Scoop, Guide, Guide
    Price: $14.21
    Tax: $0.00
    Qty: 1
    Total: $14.21

Item: Hood, Hood and components, Scoop, Radiant red, Radiant red
    Price: $97.53
    Tax: $0.00
    Qty: 1
    Total: $97.53

This specific dealership is located in Charlotte, NC and actually have free shipping on anything ordered for the month of March, 2010. After they received the parts, took one day after they shipped to get to my door. 2 business days total.

***The hood comes unpainted from certifit, just primed black***

After that, it's up to you to find someone to spray your hood locally. We (and when I say "we" I mean Steve, once again) found a guy that'll do it for $250 (I dropped mine off to him today, I guess I'll put pics up after it's installed, but Steve's looks great!)

You'll need 3 little tiny screws to put the three scoop pieces together that you ordered online (a first-grader could do it, seriously, don't get scared because you can't see the parts). And you'll only need only 5 nuts and washers to bolt the scoop to the hood. Take the scoop once it comes in to the hardware store to find the nut size that'll fit. I spent $1.17 on the hardware.

Grand total for parts and paint $463.85! Install is supposedly a breeze and can be done if you have a friend to help. Our truck hoods are self aligning so nothing special is really needed. Buying from Toyota the unpainted hood is $427 alone.

Anyways, if you have any questions, I may be able to answer them so don't be scared to shoot me a PM or ask on this thread. Pics of mine should be up by Tuesday of next week.

My paint guy said he could paint the hood for 300 and wants to know if I want him to blend the fenders for an extra 25 each, my truck is speedway blue, do you think that it needs to be blended, the word blended makes me feel like the color isnt going to match and it better match

well, what year is the truck? I have an '08 and am NOT getting them blended. I don't think it'll be noticeable, but I haven't received the final product yet. Now, if I had an '05 I might be interested in color blending...

Very cool, looks like I'll start ordering the parts and just pick up the hood and scoop while I'm in Charlotte next. Thanks for jumping the gun on this one, I now have motivation!

Also, do you have part numbers by chance?

That's a fairly decent looking hood for $100! Do you think you could adjust the fenders to close the gap that's bothering you? I don't know if it's possible, but just throwing out ideas.

There is...you just have to work a lot harder.

    Thanks dude.

Good to hear! Why not just order them? Free shipping til the end of the month. That's a negative on the part numbers, their website is set up as such to where you cannot see any of them. And remember, the hood itself is in Raleigh/Durham, not Charlotte. That's four hours south of there.

I'm not sure, I'm just hoping someone will chime in here with an easier fix. If not, I'll def look into it.
