I do not know what he did, but I wouldn't bother removing them since plasti-dip is able to peel.

 

Taped and sprayed. All I read about the clips breaking I didn't feel like buying more when it's easy to get perfect edges with the dip.

 

I had read the same bug figured I give it a try. But then I saw how they broke them. The damn thing is a total pain to remove so I just taped and sprayed as well.

 

Well I think I've found a fix for the sticky/tacky feel of plasti dip. So I have this packet of dash wipes I got from Wal-Mart for like $1 used them today to clean off dash and the painted part of the dash. Oddest thing after I did that the painted dash parts were smooth as a babies butt.lol so I took another to my grill. Same result... So hey fyi for anyone... I'll get a pic up later of the pack because I've no clue what else would do it. I know a damp cloth with just water and some soap didn't do it.

 

First derp Didn't turn out real even. About eight passes with no clear coat.

 

Can't tell in the pic and looks cool. I can't dip mine at t he moment I have chip guard on my truck and is in some places I want to now dip. Oh well didn't know about dipping at the time.

 

Looks good... I did mine last year also...!! I put about 5 coats of PD and then 2 of Glossifier...

 

You could Dip over the chip guard, I'm sure...!! Added protection..!

 

Lmao yeah I don't know about that... 1 I'm sure that would good the warranty and 2 it may not adhere to the surface very well. Even so I'd rather not...lol

In to see what exactly you used. I hate my plasti dip already for its tackiness. This would make me feel much better.

I tired to see if there was a list of ingredients but didn't see though was in hurry to get back to couch with wife to avoid wife agro.lol

I'm guessing other brands of similar things will work. But at least I know these do, which I'm happy for though still amazed because just one of them odd things in life you come across.

Edit: one other thing to add I used glossifier on both my dash parts and grill. Not sure how these work on straight dip w/o glossifier.

 

I'll see if I can find them tomorrow, thanks! I'm sure something like armor all would work too. It's probably the oils in it that breaks the plasti dip down slightly and smooths it out

 

Has anyone dipped their rocker panels?

 

I read someone's post saying the had done it on the pinch welds but I don't remember seeing pictures. Iirc they said it held up well.

 

I saw that post and that is part of the reason I am asking. Thinking about dipping them instead of the rhino line that I had on my 06

 

You guys have any advice on how to plasti dip the indented "tacoma" on the tailgate?

 

Honestly I wouldn't I'd get the plastic lettering from ebay/Amazon for that.

If your set on using plasti dip I would use automotive masking tape to tape off against the lettering then painters tape after that. Automotive tape does seem to get a nicer seal allowing for cleaner edges in areas like the tailgate, largely flat open areas.

And make sure to peal tape when wet.
