Fair. We saw 1% as the "prediction" of those impacted. Have seen quite a few photos here on the forum in various threads of what appear to be leaking/seeping rear diffs. Seems like the 1% is a lowball projection.

I'm with you on the projected number is kind of low.

i would agree that the 1% seems like it may be low, but what 1% of 250K? That's still 2.5k, and we have not seen that many here. Now the question is, have 1% of those on the list here been effected? The bigger concern is why are the ones seeing issues not on the list.

The fact we're comparing ourselves to RAM now as Toyota owners kind of sucks.

I have put roughly 900k miles on Dodge trucks and other than lift pumps, water pumps, the Dorito dash and power window switches they (2 trucks) were both great trucks. Granted they were Cummins powered and manual transmission. Both are still alive and well today with over 500k on the clock.

All manufacturers have issues. Ford holds the top 2 spots on the top 10 list still.

    http://money.cnn.com/2014/05/27/autos/biggest-auto-recalls/

The 3rd gen Tacoma has its own issues.

The auto trans is shift happy yes... you can thank the EPA for that with the ridiculous fuel mileage regulations. They are programmed to get the best mileage. On top of the fact that they have one to two more gears than most consumers are used to having.

The rear differential they stepped back to the 1990s with the smaller 8" diff in most of the product base. The leakage issues started on toyotas in the mid 2000s when they swapped from using the Toyota grey sealant on them to a gasket. Stamped steel axle housings aste going to warp no way to avoid it. Paper gaskets will only expand and compress so much.

This is a primary frustration I think for many. Quite the sacrifice in drivability when you consider the fuel economy is only marginally improved from previous generations and only on par with some full sized platforms.

    Agreed.

    Thanks EPA!

On a side note glad my manual only gets shift happy when I am ready for it. Lol

Why is it that almost every Dodge vehicle I see with the 5.7 Hemi shows that the ECM has either had to be replaced, or reprogrammed ? This just blows my mind. I wonder how much that runs someone who is out of warranty to replace the ECM ?

I just traded in my Tacoma. Drove a Silverado, F150, RAM, and Tundra before making decision.

The first F150 I drove had a loud grinding noise from transmission when it shifted, it was brand new, salesman agreed we should park it and have them look at it.

Silverado rode and handled like a car, V8 felt anemic, had surface rust on frame already.

Tundra drove great but interior was fugly and ultimately turned me off.

    Ended up with a RAM

I've owned both. 3 Rams, 2 Tundras, a 2nd gen Tacoma, a 3rd gen 4Runner, a 5th gen 4Runner and now a 2017 Ram Rebel. The first 2004 Ram 1500 grenaded the rear end with 60K on the clock, replaced under warranty. Traded immediately on a 2007 Tundra once it was fixed. The second Ram, 2012 2500 with the HO Cummins, was amazing. No issues, just impractical, didn't use it as it should've been used. All of the Toyota's were great, but just lacked something....power and excitement. Even the Tundras with the 5.7 when compared to the Hemi. The 2017 Rebel is just flat out fun to drive, and has luxurious cabin creature comforts. Will it stand the test of time? Who knows? It won't be around that long before I get bored and find something else to replace it.

Long story short, I love(d) my Toyotas, when it came to my current decision on the 2017 Ram Rebel, it offered things the Tundras did not. I have no regrets on my decision! Best vehicle I've owned thus far.

Yeah you'd think by talking to some people here if you buy a Ford, GM or Dodge it will fall apart or break down and be totally worthless value-wise by 60 to 80k miles. Funny I know plenty of people who drive all of the above, put over 100k on them and have little to no issue with reliability or resale.

When it comes to trucks, I'm either Toyota or Ram. Not a huge Chevy or Ford guy, even though my whole family goes one of those two ways.

I have buddies with newer Rams that have well over 150K, both gas and diesel, with no issues. My 3rd gen 4Runner that I still own has 300+K on it with no major issues. It doesn't matter what manufacturer you chose these days. There will always be a select few that have major issues, while the majority experience none. It's more personal preference than anything else.

The resale on the Ram HD's with the Cummins is, in my opinion, on par with what I've seen with my Toyotas. Same goes for any diesel really. I stole my 2500 Ram because it was a model year old. When I sold it, I got more than I originally paid for it. Buy a highly desireable vehicle, you will see a good resale return regardless of manufacturer.

I grew up with GM vehicles and of the 4 I had all had problem after recall after problem.. the 5th time to dealer with my Tahoe I said f- it, I'm done. I hate the 16+ Silverado front end, considered Sierra but never went to go look at one.
    //

The 8spd in the RAM is amazing, its so fast and smooth. The HEMI goes like a raped ape when you need it to, (3.92 rearend) Cylinder deactivation mode seems to be saving me gas, first fill up of 32gal tank returned me 20.2mpg/525mi (put 26gals in).

Tacoma did me well the 6 years I had it, we just outgrew it. Other than the driveline lash and shitty ride/weak leaf springs not covered under TSB.. it was great!
