    Nothing is 100% so quit trying to scare people. All of those stories are preventable ( going off-roading? User error?). If your scared, then don't buy it. All I know is the fumoto is the best thing I've ever purchased for my truck.

    When I ordered a box of 10 Toyota OEM oil filters, I also got a bag of 10 blue crush washers. Then for my B day I got a F 103n Fumoto Valve but have yet to install it.
    Before I used the crush washers, I would always have to top off my oil. Not anymore.
    Wouldn't plain metal washers around the drain plug fuse to the oil pan? Or does the oil not get hot enough? Hence the reason the crush washers have that outside felt in them.

    A mini hose clamp fits well on my EZ Valve.

    Fumoto even offer the plastic valve clip to prevent accidental release of the lever.

    Yeah I stopped reading after the prius ran over a block of 6"×6", felt the impact on undercarriage and continued at highway speeds. At least the 1st link was a prius forum. I think the fumoto is the lowest point in that application. More exposed and less ground clearance led to failures driving over road debris at hwy speeds

    These quarter turn Teflon lined valves rarely just start leaking like some of the stories linked above describe. These look like a heavier duty version of the modern 1/4 turn replacement valves you would use, say, under a sink. This leads me to believe they torqued from the hex shaped part of the valve, damaging it, rather than the square body as recommended by fumoto.

    This item which I believe may be available at hardware store looks to be a good solution but I'm going to try the zip-tie first. I already keep a bundle of around 100 ties secured in my engine compartment to save space.

    How much further down does the Fumoto valve stick out than the standard plug? Seems like the stock skid plate on the OR would protect it too.

    There should be a safety clip for that clip which, in turn, should be safety wired.

    If I remember correctly, it's a fiber looking washer. It's not a crush washer but it's not a rubber o ring either.
