The overall diameter of the 265/70R17 will be about a 1" larger over the 265/65R17.

That being said, going to the 265/70R17 will result in a 1/2" higher ride height.

I made this exact change in tire size a few months ago and am very satisfied with the results. The tire fills the wheel wells nicely, and there's less than 1" of clearance between the tire and the inner fender skirt when the wheels are turned.

Here's what my ride looks like with the 265/70R17's:

Are you sure you can run 255/75/17 with stock suspension? I am looking to order some bigger tires asap and just wanna make sure they aren't going to rub. I wanna go as big as possible so I would ratrher run 255/75/17 than 265/70/17 if I can...

    OK, cool, thanks!

Any reason I should put on 265/70/17 vs 255/75/17?

    Get this.....
I was talking to a guy in the parts department at my local Toyota dealer, about what tires they have in stock and prices. We were discussing BFGs TA/KOs, in particular, which he claims is the best truck tire on the road.

Anyways, he told me that if one were to go to the from the 245/75/16s to the 265/75/16s or from the 265/65/17s to the 265/70/17s, they might tear their mud-flap off when going in reverse because the tires are too big.

I'm thinking its bull$hit, as most people here keep saying these tires are fine. I had a set on mine for about a week, with no issues.

My question is, is what this guy is saying bull$hit? Or is there something to it?

if the person uses aftermarket wheels and it pushed them out further, it makes it more likely for this to happen.

I have 16" x 8" Moto Metal 955's on order, and am looking to put 265/75/16 ATs on, with no lift. The metals have a 0mm offset (I believe stock on my steel OEMs is 22 mm, or something). Does anyone have any idea if this will rub / tear off the mud flaps? Has anyone here ran this setup?

I run 265/75/16s with no problem on the TRD. I think it's almost as big as I can go though. looking for some narrower, maybe 255(ish).

I'm running a 255/75/17. And fits fine. Just a little scrubbing at full turn. You can find these tires relatively cheek since the jeep guys get rid of them quick.

Thnx silver!...one last thing with the bigger tires do the shocks travel ok or do the tires hit if I do a little offroading and go on bumpy terrain?. (do tires not rub only on flat surface with your experience?).

Yes, the guy at the toyota dealership was right. I put 265/75/16 tires on my 05 double cab and going into reverse it grabbed the front mud flap and tore it. I have read bulletins on the problem with mud flaps craking, so take your pick if it was the tire or bad flap. No rubbing in the fender though.
Tip: if you go to Tire rack and select "compare selected tires" it will give you their exact dimensions.
Question: I want to go to 265/75/16 with my 2004 Xtra cab - no lift. I think it should be fine, but I was going to put the BFG KM2 on it. Slightly bigger than most due to the knobs 31.9" diameter. Am I pushing the envelope with that choice???
    Question:
