Just curious on how it works to order a tacoma how you want it. Do the dealerships have less haggle room if you order. What things can you leave off or not leave off if you order ie could I order a trd off road truck and not get a radio in it. Since that would be my first mod.

TW is a great site by the way very helpful.

In my experience it doesn't matter if you order it or not, just do it from a big dealership because they sell more vehicles than the smaller ones do and will give you a better deal. Also you can get what you want, you can choose to go with the limited radio, but you can't just order one without a radio.

But you might have to wait a while for the truck... thats the down side.

i actually just ordered 1. the haggle room i recieved was pretty good. the asking price was 27,900 but i got them down to 24000 even. i ordered it. you cant get it without a radio or anything though. basically you can just get the cheapest one possible that way its no big deal if you rip it out. the trd offroad edition comes with a better radio than the basemodel anyway.

yeah, it took them 3 weeks to get mine here. it wasnt too bad though. ugh, i got stuck driving my brothers mazda rx8 though*puke*

According to my dealer, Toyota, unlike some other automakers, does not allow you to order directly from the factory. They just build a bunch of trucks and dealerships are allocated vehicles based on their sales.

They know what trucks they will be getting and when.

If you are looking for a specific model and they don't have it, they look to see what is coming in. If they don't have what you want allocated to them they look to other dealerships within their own organization and then look to dealerships outside their organization. If one has it they will most likely trade it to the dealership so that the dealership now owes them a favor and they will get one they need in return.

Totally untrue. I ordered mine and had build numbers and date from the factory. Son-in-law is an engineer at Toyota.

How did you "order yours"? I'm wanting a particular model now and they only show one of it available in my region... my dealership has told me they can't "build to order"...

Damn. Looks like both dealerships I visited lied to me. Two different companies but the same story at both. I wanted to order specfics but was told you cannot order from the factory.

Did you perhaps get to place an order because of the family connection at Toyota?

I don't think it has anything to do with family connection at all. Alot of dealers just want to push off something they have in stock or something thats soon to be shipped to them. I'd look for another dealer that would like to have my business if I were you guys. Ron

    No mods whatsoever!
    1) Give them all your money.
    2) Wait longer than expected for your truck to come in.
    3) Make monthly payments.
    4) Repeat steps 1,2, and 3.

Last August 09, before i go to dealership, I always check online to see if they have good deal. I found the truck what I want to buy. I call them around 6 pm and the online salesman said he will hold it for 24 hours. I show up on the next day in the afternoon. I spoke with the salesman and he told me that truck was "pre-sold" to somebody else. WTF!!

He said that he have two truck in stock that will match my need. 09 DC 4X4 DC without JBL system with two different color in red and white. I told him that is not I wanted to buy, I want DC 4X4 OR with JBL system in silver or dark blue. He said that he might have to locate to different dealership to see if they have in stock. I thought other dealership might not have it because I did search online.

I told him that I want to order from the factory with the same price that I see them online. He says he cannot do that. So I walked away from him. I walked to the parking lots with my unhappy looks on my face.

Other salesman saw my looks and ask me what is going on. So I told him the story. He says that is not right and he spoke with his manager. Manager what not happy with online salesman. Manager said go ahead and order 2010 Silver from the factory with same price quote. And I just realize that they don't make dark blue anymore. Manager told me that this dealership is no haggle and give everybody to be fair. Whatever.

you hand them lots and lots of money and they give you a truck that will need to be worked on before it leaves the lot.

research your TSB's (technical service bulletins) and get them taken care of before you drive off the lot.
