Id say steel. Id be worried the aluminum may get bent up and be difficult to remove or nearly impossible to put back on if you drop it on a rock. Just my 2cents

I'm going aluminum, but I'm not planning on slamming my front bumper on serious rock trails.

    A thing or two...
The bumper that I'm getting is aluminum, but a bumper usually don't see the abuse that skid plates do. If I get skids, they'll be steel. At the very least, I'm thinking I'll need an the front most IFS skid. The problem is that no one makes them for the 4 cylinder. They're all designed for the 6 cylinder.

nah, he's been going rogue lately... solo... he's a wild card.

I'm getting (and have been for the last couple weeks) underlying tones of resentment towards this group for "not going offroad" enough / not "using their rigs"

it's tough to find time (especially w/ a baby, a wife, school, and moving) for me to just drop everything and go camping... but that doesnt mean all I do is "bolt a bunch of stuff" on to my truck and never use it.... it's just difficult, at times, to find time right now... things will settle down a lot more once I get moved to this new house. (hence why I said we should plan a weekend at Rausch Creek sometime in Sep / Oct)

dont worry man.... we will spend some quality trail time soon! haha

Dont get all worked up about it. He said he realizes we all have different lives. I don't really have a life right now, so I don't qualify. Soon enough though, I'll be able to attend meetups/mod days and such, ironically at that point I'll likely no longer have a taco.

Im surprised you wouldn't want to keep them for your own inventory? They don't go bad do they?

For most it would be 10+ years, depends on which ones you get.

@fatfurious2 I would be interested depending on age and type. I try to keep a 3 month supply of food, water, and other essentials I deem important in case of shelter in place situations.

Dont get aluminum. That's basically if you plan on driving in grass.

Considering the added investment for aluminum over steel, props to you for fronting that bill. Should you wheel, as @Darkgoatracer said, aluminum will likely bend and fold around any impact which can be a bitch to straighten out just to remove from the truck. This can become a pain in the ass when it comes to just cleaning the skid area due to debris.

Your call, but even if aluminum was the same price as steel, is it worth having it and STILL being vulnerable on a trail?
