I love the idea of a ham for the extra range but as you said everybody around here uses a CB

 

But then you have to apply and get a ham license and file for a username or something like that right? Just seems like more than what I want to deal with.

 

It used to be you had to take a Morse Code test (among others) to get a Ham license. They did that to keep out the "Ten-4 Good Buddy" types out.

 

Well the call on yesterday was obviously the correct one. Boy what a perfectly boring day today has been, Wife went to her sisters and I've had nothing to do. I wish one of you guys had done some mods today or something

 

Went up to Flagpole Knob with @Coot83 and @misdirection1982 on Friday night and camped out. Then we drove down Union Springs Rd on Saturday morning. My truck did pretty well for being a stock suspension Prerunner. There was one part I had to get a good running start at to get past and took a couple of tries to do it. There was another part where I had to be pulled up because I didn't have room to get a running start and couldn't get a traction. If I could have grabbed traction, I would have been alright.

Here's the only picture of my truck from the trip. @Coot83 took it at the first big drop off that we came to. Note the lack for front plate, I'm pretty sure I lost it on the drive up Friday night. Parts of that drive were sketchy AF.

Anyone know if it's possible to get a replacement plate from the DMV or will I have to buy all new plates? Going to try to call the DMV sometime this week, but it's a PITA to get ahold of them.

 

What's the low-down on Ozark Trail coolers? They are a lot cheaper than Yetis and better quality than Igloo or Rubbermaid.

 

A quick google search for reviews show the OT don't hold up well next to a Yeti, and several are recommending a Coleman Xtreme over an OT.

 

It was fun rolling with you Jeremy, its too bad the trip was cut short due to my shortcommings unfortunately. I think driving there in those conditions was fun for everyone though as it was pretty slick in general. Looking forward to seeing your build come together with the new stuff on the way.

 

In the reviews I read and saw on youtube the yeti and OT were very comperable but neither would hold ice as long as advetised. I saw that Coleman extreme did do a better job just not built as tuff. The one I saw so far I think did the best was the Cabelas Polar Cap.

 

This looks like it could be fun. And apparently the trail is do-able in a stock vehicle.

It def is! The Nova group went there about a month ago and had a good time. I will warn you this time of year the vegetation is in full growth so expect a decent amount of stripes if you choose to roll out. I know many wheelers expect this on their rig, but just a precaution for those who might not know.

 

Would it be better in the fall when the vegetation dies down?

 

I would think so, but likely closer to the end of the year if I had to guess depending on our inconsistent heat that the end of the summer tends to bring.

 

Maybe we could plan something for, say, October. My wife is def. not into camping (her idea of "roughing it" is having to share a bathroom) so it would be just a one-day thing for us.

 

Could be do-able, any idea how far of a trek that would be for you to make it up there? I think its about 3 hours for me one way from my location.

 

By "hold up" does that mean it won't survive very well getting banged around?

My local Wal-mart has one for $99.
