So I noticed today that I am due for an oil change. So I swung by my local auto-zone and picked up a 5qt. jug of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic for $19. My quesiton is, how much longer of an interval can a person go between oil changes with full synthetic? I have always used conventional oil and changed every 3k, so needless to say the syn. is new to me. thanks in advance

I just did the same thing. I plan on going 5k miles on the oil change.

They say 5k for synthetic. I would say depends on driving conditions, dirt road driving, etc. I changed to M1 and will keep changing at 3k cause I don't drive 1k a month and I drive on dirt and salty roads and cold conditions.

    Yeah I guess so. :D

I'm pretty curious, although I work for autozone, we dont even get discounts on oils, which is total BS, but thats another story.

I wonder if one autozone was doing a clearance or something?

it must have been a special...because they had it sitting right when you walk in the front door instead of on the shelves.

depends on driving habits. if you bought a cheaply made filter. then my answer is often. the filter plays a huge part. not just the syn oil. the best advice i can give is look at the dipstick to determine when to change. but i wouldn't go over the manufactures change intervals.

If you are really interested in a scientific answer for your oil change interval question then send a sample of your oil off for an oil analysis after 5k miles.

Yes, I forgot about the filter. I have a napa gold so Im sure the filter could easily go 8k but im changing it at 5k just to be safe.
