I may be going with second gen due to budget but just not finding manual 4X4 2.7 second gen in abundance, and even fewer third gen... what's with not making more sticks???

Also, with domestics I was under the impression that they blow up as soon as you put them in gear and your teeth fall out as soon as you sit in them. Be very afraid! :)

I see you are looking for a manual. Good choice. The 6 speed auto absolutely sucks and will likely get a refresh soon. The only other issue is the rear axle making a little too much gear noise. I think that will get fixed soon as well. Toyota's quality control is no longer what it was in the 1990s. But then, most other main stream auto manufacturers dropped quality control as well. I have a TRD off road and I really like it, aside from the transmission and the noise my rear end. I recommend negotiating in a platinum 125k mile service plan, as I think there will be some electronics failures that will break the bank if you keep the truck for the long haul. My $.02

Budgetary constraints must be respected, to each his own in that department, but I have determined that I am not a fan of purchasing newer used Tacomas. Friend of mine just got one and could have gotten the same truck new for $5K more, and he could have easily swung that. Newer used just don't save a guy enough money to justify IMHO. But again, to each his own.

If it were me, I'd find a new '17 Access Cab with 2.7 and the manual. I think you'd find that truck was bullet-proof for years to come.

Good luck, whichever way you decide to go.

If I wanted some crazy turbo charged 350hp vehicle, I would bought something else.

I want a reliable car that I can use for 200k miles like all my other Toyota vehicles. Nothing I have experienced so far with this truck (4500 miles in) has led me to believe that I can't rely on this car for the next ten years or so.

I am simply tired of the hatred on this forum. If you don't like the Tacoma THEN GO BUY A FUCKING GM GARBAGE BIN TWIN and stop cluttering up the entire forum. This is not directed spefically at the person, but everyone. I am tired of all the fucking whining.

The ride is too rough.... The leaf springs squeek after ran the car through mud... The seat is uncomfortable....hey obviously this car wasn't made for you, get something else.

You're not wrong. I test drove a 2017 Canyon and Colorado and they're garbage. No room to move around, handle like crap, high revs before power delivery, etc. If my 2016 Tacoma goes south I'm just gonna grab a Silverado and never look back.

Or a new Frontier (if that comes out). Once there is a new Ranger and Frontier out, I'll make the decision to replace my Tacoma either with one of those or a Tacoma.

Having said that, drove my buddies 2016 TRD Sport auto up on a fishing trip. Just some basic camping gear in the back and not towing anything. The auto and 6 cyl combo was a real dog in my opinion. Seemed really weak for a 6 cylinder (this coming from a guy who drives a 2.7...).

We were driving across the Canadian prairie in all it's flatness and the thing was constantly shifting. My buddy said the shifting was fine, I think he's in denial as I've driven a lot of vehicles and can only remember a 1980 Chevette and Nissan Versa CVT having worst transmissions.

I'm not sure about the manual, but I've heard good things.

OP- do a regular a test drive and then a week or two later request an extended test drive (6 hours minimum - overnight optimal). This will help you get over the new car "wow factor" and puts your head in a better place in order to help make the right decision.

Don't jump into anything you will regret.

I am convinced I have a magic turd gen :humble:. I only drove one second gen. It was a 4 cycl and I remember getting on the on ramp and literally feeling like I wanted to jump out the door and start running alongside pushing it up the ramp to go faster . The acceleration in my 2016 often feels sluggish but if I use some calf muscle it goes way faster than the 2nd gen 4 banger I drove or my 2004 V6. Great advice on the test drives.

Yes, the 4 cyl is a dog ;). Sometimes I think those guys in electric wheel chairs can give my truck a run for the money at a light.

Makes you a better driver though as you can't just punch the accelerator to get out of a situation. Big adjustment when I drive my truck vs. my wife's Volvo S60 with 325 hp and 0-60 in 4.4 sec. :burnrubber:

So here's the question though. Have you ever been late somewhere because your truck was not fast enough? I'm not in that big of a hurry usually.

No, never been late and not in a big hurry. Top speed is fine but 0-60 is bit on the slow side.

As for my wife's Volvo - it has a speed limiter built in, which is her backseat driving.....:bananadead:

I'm confused, and please don't construe this in an attempt to start a flame war, but I was under the impression from previous posts of yours in previous threads that you didn't like your current Tacoma and were considering other options in the short term or medium term (i.e. Ranger) :notsure:

No issues with mine so I love it but tons of people can say otherwise with theirs.

So drive it and see what you think. Don't trust any of us.
