    It happens.
For example. Person owes more on their current vehicle than what it is worth. They trade it in. Dealer pays off the loan and rolls the difference into the Tacoma loan. Hence, upside down.

One reason I have paid cash for my vehicles for years. With or without a trade.

    I understand WHY it happens

Just didn't figure a person who is upside down on a Loan would have the intelligence to then buy a Tacoma ;)

I am with you. $$cash money

Howling lower control arms, you will hear a whistling noise coming from the front of the truck in cross winds while traveling down the highway with your windows down. Sounds like when you blow on the top of a bottle. Howling diff is from the rear pinion in your axle. I dont have the issue so I couldnt tell you what it sounds like but from others it's a gear whining noise.

Does sales staff have insight into service records? Mine has the 2200 rpm vibes, 'working as designed'. I have not read anywhere this was fixed so is it worth mentioning to the service dept if I plan to trade soon? I've read they made it worse by trying to retorque engine mounts. Thanks for the insight.

Bought my Black 2WD SR5 for $28,400 in March, got on Tacoma World and convinced myself I "Needed" a TRD OR 4x4. I traded the SR5 in for the TRD ORDC MT on 30Jun2017. Dealership gave me $26,500 trade in allowance, took a hit $1900 hit, but got my TRD OR for $31,8??. Very happy with the decision and outcome.

Sorry to hear about your issues OP, and believe you've made the right decision in moving on, (unlike others) I honestly wish you the best of luck.

And I don't think any OV-tune or shift-sense of any kind are the answer to your problems either, so good call on not throwing good money after bad. Those gimmicks may work for vehicles that have no issues to begin with, but with issues such as yours only replacement of faulty components will address your concerns imo.

I really do like mine and its just awesome in every way but I do have one very bad gripe, and that's the front cross traffic visibility that is so poor on account of the over sized mirrors. I've come close to wrecking because they somehow are not coming into view until the last minute. I find maybe the cab its too small for them, idk.

This may be totally just on me, as I've not heard anyone with this beef and I'm seriously considering trying to find smaller side door mirrors but I don't know what will fit.
I'm thinking RAV4 mirrors if they're smaller would solve my problem.

And I too have the ok from the boss to trade out but this would be for safety issues alone not anything else, and its killing me because I really do like my truck.

    Best of luck!
    Cheers!

wow. that is only 5k and 1 year and 20k miles. That is good. I hear of so many that say they got trade after 10k miles and get trade of like 2k difference and just hard for me to believe. 5k is good. Ive got 44k on my Colorado diesel z71 and it was 41300 msrp and I paid $39600 last Feb and trade they are giving me 28k. And that was best I can get. Got 26k on some places is all. So $11600 in 17 months 44k miles. Not so good in my opinion. That is $682.35 a month for 2600 miles a month. That is another reason I am looking at the Tacoma. If I can pick up 18 trd off road that has msrp of 41500 and I pay 39000 k for it and can get $31 k trade in same amount of time and miles then it is lot better cost of ownership.

if your looking into a trd off road you should be under that 40k mark, anything above the off road trim will more than likely pass that 40k mark, i felt like i got a good deal on the truck and the st fiesta that i bought

well I think msrp on the 18 with tech and premium pkg with jbl dbl cab will be about 41k especially now they come standard with leather also. one I looked at now was 39600 msrp on a 17 model.

I for one am happy that there are those that scrap their plans of Tacoma ownership in a short amount of time. Long story short, I bought a '16 OR DCSB 4WD auto with tow pkg and no tech with 15k miles for $30.6k in December 2016. At a GMC store from someone that I assume decided a full size was more suited for them. MSRP new was $36,500 and I estimate invoice to have been $33,500. I scoured 9 states and this ended up being 40 miles away.

To add to that I cannot imagine a situation where trading in would be my best scenario, but different strokes...

Traded my 2017 DCSB SR5 that I bought in October of 2016 to a new 2017 Chevy Colorado Z71 in April of 2017. The Taco then had 9K miles on it. I paid just over 30K for the Tacoma and the Chevy dealer gave me 28K trade in. Up until last week, the Tacoma was still sitting on their lot. I checked this morning and it's no longer on their website so I assume it finally sold after 3 months.

My reasons for doing the trade were the same as yours OP. I wanted to love the truck but it just didn't happen and the 3 month confiscation was the final nail in the coffin. I feel like my trade was plenty fair so I did it. The Colorado has been a decent truck so far but if you're into aftermarket stuff, there's nowhere near as much as for the Tacos. Good luck.

I was offered $32K on my 16 sport DCSB 4x4 with premium tech and tow, 20k miles. . I just couldn't do it. There is nothing currently on the market I am interested in. The Tundra looks old and the interior is dated. Ford and chev look like blocks to me. You couldn't give me a dodge. GMC would be my only choice but I don't have $53K to get the truck I would want and it's still not my favorite. I have 16 more months on my factory warranty so going to ride it out. Maybe the 2019s will have all the bugs worked out. I am fortunate that my service guy has empathy and takes good care of me. I will say that in my opinion toyota could have done a lot better in the quality control department on this truck. I feel for those that are frustrated with the issues having been there myself.
