I'll be honest, I bought an AC because I just thought it looked better than a DC. Something about that short bed looks weird to me, and the DCLB is just way too long.

Now, I will mention one thing about the AC that annoys me.... when I go somewhere like Walmart to buy groceries and whatnot, and I push the cart up to the truck from behind, as soon as I open that access door it's in the way since it opens towards me. Now if nobody is parked next to me it's not an issue, but you know how that goes. I will likely end up installing a bed cover so I can just throw stuff on the back rather than trying to put everything inside.

Something that I do occaisionally is, open the front door, open the access door and then close the front door.

Get a DCSB or DCLB. I hate how impractical Access cabs are. Tight uncomfortable seats, weird doors, just skip it all together and get a double cab OP.

Get the double cab long bed. Guaranteed you'll be glad you did.

It'll serve your dirt-bike hauling needs well and your dogs will thank you too!

Double cab long bed here but I have kids so I needed the room. I probably wouldn't have considered an AC anyway though. My decision came down to long bed vs. short bed. Happy with the long bed. It's looooong, but anyone with reasonable driving skills can adjust. I came out of a small sub-compact and the transition was easy.

I got the AC because I'd rather have the extra foot in the bed than in the cab. I never haul passengers. I've moved twice since I got my truck (and helped a friend), the 6 foot bed was nice to have with the mattress and other large furniture.

Ultimately its how you plan on using your truck. Gonna be driving around a lot with your friends? Get the double cab. Want an excuse to not have to drive, get an access cab.

I bought my truck from Koons in Tyson's. Just a quick word of advise if you go through them... They don't negotiate at all. They claim to have the lowest price around so they can avoid negotiations.

I paid their sticker price but they had the exact truck I wanted for about $1000 less than the other places so not a huge deal to me, I just found it odd. I had the intention of buying used untill I saw what they were asking then I waited a few months and bought mine new.

    Good luck!

my @ cents I did not want the 3rd gen , bad auto tranny shifts , front windshield cost a lot to replace , not the engine that I wanted , I paid big $$$ for my 2011 , 50,000 miles , yes I could have brought new about the same $$$$ , but that just me ,

+1 vote here for the AC. No kids and rarely haul people besides my g/f. You actually get a pretty good amount of space in the AC and just personal preference but I like the look of them the best.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but I thought i read somewhere that you only get an additional 6" of usable space between the rear of an AC and the rear of a DC due to the storage behind the rear seats of DC?

+1 for the access cab. I was in the same situation as you with only a girlfriend, gear, and no kids in the near future. Found an access cab for a deal I couldn't pass up and it has been good to me. I spend a considerable amount of time outdoors/on less than desirable roads (3-5 days a week). For me there is plenty of room in the backseat for sensitive gear and plenty of room in the bed for not so sensitive gear. I would hate to sit in the backseat for sure but it works for me. The DCLB is too long in my opinion, I drove a couple and it felt like a boat. Just my 2 cents

Thanks buckwheat, after doing some more research, I'm completely on board with what you said.

Now that I know what I "need" I'm going to opt for the look I want. So the only decision left for me to make is whether I want to go with a 2012-2015, or a new 2016-2017

I'll be going with the TRD Sport package, 4x4 etc.

And also color... something that won't show mud and scratches too easy, but also something that isn't silver or white.

Not sure about nautical blue, pyrite mica or spruce mica, but I really like those colors

Not to sound like a cock, but I don't have any student loans to pay off.

I have a pretty good job lined up for after I graduate in May, which is why I'm doing my research/ planning on purchasing in the near future

Get the double cab. I was in your same boat always wanted one and finally got one and I got the access cab. I loved the truck however there are a lot less options for a roof rack. So traded it in after a year for a double cap.

Ha, no you do not sound like one. I too was fortunate enough to have graduated debt free. It sounds like you are in a good place right now, so research away. I am too in the DCLB club even though I own an AC. I am drawn more to the Sports than anything else due to the color matching they have.

And just a word of advice on headlights if you decide to change yours out...a stock looking headlight retrofitted with Morimoto HIDs is a ton better than customizing the colors of headlights AND getting the retrofit. I bought a pair that look extremely cool on their own but when paired with the rest of my truck look a little too aftermarket.

Every time I think I've finally decided on a truck lol. That being said, if I was buying a DC should I be going for the long bed?

There is a nautical blue Tacoma with 70,000 miles with all the mods I wanted on it, for about 25k but it's a short bed.

And a DCSB 2014 in timberland with 50k for $25,000

There's also a DCLB Barcelona with 53k miles for $24,000... so those were my options if I went DC

The only "must haves" for me was it had to be 4x, it had to be v6, it had to be the manual and it had to be the access cab and the long bed because I do quite a bit of hauling. Other than those few things I didnt much care.

Thanks for the advice, this is one mod I actually wanted to do, but I'll take your advice now that I know that.

Can't wait to modify that's for sure.
