Waited many years to buy the Tacoma. Finally bought the 2016 first year out. Beautiful truck, Limited trim with all the bells and whistles. $41K out the door; never spent that much on a truck before. Toyota nailed the style, interior, ride, interior....but...........

Drove it and within a week knew there was something wrong with the transmission. Went back to the dealer and the sales guy told me I needed to get accustomed to the erratic shifting pattern..."just part of the new technology" he said. Then the cruise control locked in 3rd gear and hit the rev limiter on I-10 and I almost lost control....couldn't fix it but they installed firmware that created a shift point limit.

Talked to my son who is a tech for another large Japanese automobile company. He told me the "shift schedule" was incorrect. After too numerous complaints to the service department they finally brought this district tech down from Denver. He wouldn't tell me anything after he and his team of Ghost Busters drove it. But after they left the mechanic in the service department who had ridden along told me that they had duplicated the problem.

Was I the only person with a gimp Taco? Went on the internet and wow! I was one of thousands with the same problem. If you live at sea level or the terrain around your home town is flat then you probably aren't aware of this.

My woeful tale went on for 35,000 miles and I spent many hours on the phone and many frustrating miles listening to a transmission that had lost it's brains and an engine that had no testicles (low end torque), endless aversions to telling me the truth, that Toyota had not solved all the problems they had with the "Atkinson cycle" and 6 speed tranny on the Gen 3 Tacoma. What total BS!

Last week I traded it off for a new truck after a frustrating experience trying to trade on a new Tundra which would get 17 mpg. No joy so much BS so I simply walked down the street and bought a new truck, different Manufacturer and traded in the Taco. The Tacoma will be my last Toyota, I've owned four Toyota vehicles and got great service out of them (not Tacomas)..but this time dealer didn't cover me, Toyota didn't give a sh-t and probably just wanted me and my defective Tacoma to just go away.......so that's what I did.... I went away.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, especially after you spent the most money you ever did on a vehicle. That has to be frustrating.

Additionally, for you not to be able to lemon it, and have Toyota buy it back, adds to the wound I am sure.

On to happier news, what did you buy? What color? Any pics of the new ride?
