So it's been couple of weeks since I caught the rat that was in my truck, and I thought I was in the clear as far as damage done by that bastard. It's beginning to appear I am not. I know I'm covered by Allstate if the damages can be proven that it was done by the rat, now I got to wait for my agent to get back in office to call me, to see what I need to do next. This ought to be fun!!!!
All issues are of course electrical in nature. :frusty:

I feel your pain. I had a rat chew at my battery and alternator wires a while ago. Rodents suck.

Yes they do. This one was in the cab. No telling what it did in the dash board. I got problems with the door locks, 4wheel drive selector and others. It all started or I discovered the problem during the time of the rat or right after. Common factor is the rat. 40000 miles on the truck I find it hard to believe I'm having this many issues in electrical this early. I didn't buy a Ford.

Wow, in the cab? You must've been particularly unlucky that day. Haha.

That's funny, although I haven't had any problems with my '89 F-150. Then again, the only electrical are the lights and wipers

Super shitty about the issue though, Mumzie had one die in her vehicle and couldn't find it for weeks.

I came from rangers. They were great trucks and I'll dispute that with anyone. The only issues I ever had was electrical issues with them.

I'm sure that smell was aweful. I was concerned that the one I had(female rat) had babies. Luckily it did not.

Sinilarly, I came from those old 2nd gen Explorers (back when they were still just Rangers with a back). All my issues were just poor design choice/shoddy build quality. Still looks and runs well though, after all the maintenance work I and my dad have had to do to it over the last 17 years.

I had a 92 and a 99 ranger. I beat and abused them. (No off-roading though) I traded in my last one for the Tacoma as it was at a point that I needed and wanted to fix it up and make it nice again. Realized that the money that I would put in it, would never increase the value if I was to get in a wreck or sell it. At that point it was time to have a payment again. On the upside of a payment I have an awesome Tacoma now!

Found a wire that's been chewed on and chewed through from the rat. That explains why, my doors won't unlock from the master switch. Currently looking for more. IMG_4933.jpg

Good luck. I'd be raging mad if it was me, so good on you for keeping your cool (at least I assume you are).

I am not to please about it. Its been a PITA for sure, but its out of my control. I can only hope that Allstate steps up to cover everything that needs to be done. It could be limited to that one wire, or it could be more, a lot more. Only way to know is go into the dash and take it apart.

Becareful taking the dash off you may even want to take it to the shop to have them look it over as insurance compay may claim that you cause the damage while removing the dash

Im not that brave and certainly know my limit. I need to find out how the process is going to go with Allstate, I'm hoping they will let me take it to the shop of my choice, as I already have one picked out, that I have a relationship with and that I can trust. Taking apart a dash is no small feat.

Let us know how it turns out. I'm curious if that sorta thing is covered under comprehensive or whatever, especially if they have to tear down the dash just to "inspect" without knowing for sure there're repairs back there.

I for sure got one wire chewed through. Everything else is a guess at this point. I Honestly feel as though it is in the best interest for all involve to go ahead and dig a little deeper, as to make sure there is no potential safety hazards. For all I know a random Airbag wire could be chewed up. Allstate being the one paying for the bill my feel differently. I dont know. I do know my 4x4 selector was acting up on me, during my last trip out. Dealership said it was working as designed, and I call BS on that. Once again something that is electrical and something that showed no signs of malfunction until after the rat. I just got to sit and wait to see How Allstate handles this claim and how the procedure will be.

The Taco is your only set of wheels I assume? If not, might be worth it to just hang tight until insurance lets you know what their plan is.

Thinking of getting a rotopax 4 gallon, it will fit nicely tucked under my tool box.

And it got me thinking, if you guys went somewhere what would be on your priority list.

    Rtt
    Air compressor...?
    Sliders
    Skids(full or just the front)
    Cookware?
    Cooler?

Trying to get a list up but most likely keeping the trails to something like trey mtn

I didn't really mean put them in order but that'll work, anything you'd add?
