I would not buy a vehicle ever again (wife and I have bought 5 new in our lives--FWIW 3 were Toyotas). We buy used with more attention to condition than age or miles. We got her '03 Highlander in late '07 (CPO) with 85k miles, it has 215k now should make 300k. Got my '09 DCSB last October with 135k, also CPO, I plan on keeping it at least 10 years.

That said I would not buy a used 3rd gen (or 1st or 2nd year of anything) as they are too new to know how they'll be with 100k on them--let others do the shake-down cruise...

Buying a 1 or 2 year old used Tacoma's is rarely a good idea, better to just snag a new one.

If you buy used make sure its at least 3 years old. That's the standard lease term. When they are traded in you have a better chance of getting a good truck that someone at least wanted. A used 1 year old truck is a truck someone didn't want. Odds of getting a good used 1 year old truck are not in your favor.

Think about seating surfaces in restaurants, or doctor's waiting rooms, that have had hundreds of cubic feet of the stuff, mostly from different people, filtered through them.

Or movie theaters, think twice before eating that popcorn that fell between your legs...

I don't buy used anymore OP, but I used to and don't see any reason not to. Actually I think smart ppl with means do just that and keep laughing all the way to the bank. A lot of ppl just get over their heads or buy the wrong vehicle or have babies and turn in perfectly working vehicles into the hands of those street smart ppl.

If it weren't for my addiction to the new car smell, and my wife's germ phobia, I'd be smart to do the same

Lots of happy second hand '16 Taco owners out there

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

There's another way to look at it too.
His may end up being better since all the attention has been given to address these issues while he owned it. I believe the remaining thing on his is the diff howl.
He reports his issues on here more detailed than anyone else.

Well now, I may be a sucker, but I did purchase a used 2016 access cab. So far so good. Enjoying it quite a bit, and like the sliding window in the back. I was having a hard time finding what I wanted in a new 2017 and decided to take my chances on the used 2016. Got it at a better price than new with really good APR.

I would not buy one used. I'll be trading mine by the end of the month and it has a lot of problems!
