I've got a Samsung S4 that won't charge when I plug it into the USB port on my '13. I get a message on the screen saying something like 'USB error' or something similar with some additional information (sorry not near the truck to get it exactly). The weird thing is that it doesn't supply any power to the phone. I'm really only wanting to use the USB port to charge the phone as I don't need it as a storage device. My radio is a 57053. Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get the USB to charge?

USB's on this generation truck are for data connectivity and NOT charging because they are current limited USB ports. Sad. :(

So I had a similar problem. I was stupid and replaced my aux and USB port. Expensive like 50 bucks than I cleaned out my USB port on my phone and it was full of crude. I wasted 50 bucks haha. Get some IPA and clean it out worth a try

Never had an issue not charging my iPhone and my wife's S3 and S7. Even with my aftermarket headunit, the OEM port charges still.

Don't know why it would matter, but maybe try one of those little 12 v outlet plugs with a USB port on the end and see if that works.

As mentioned above ignition must be on for port to be energized.

The USB port in the truck can provide about 0.5A to your phone. This is not very much for newer phones (which can draw up to 3A). The port in the A truck provides just enough to keep my Pixel from discharging, but doesn't really charge it much. A 12V adapter that plugs into the outlets would charge your phone faster.

I've never tried charging via the USB, I have a 12v charger that I use. But, even with it, the tacoma kills power to the outlets when it's not running.
