All I saw when I read this was "racetruck. racetruck. racetruck. etc"

I got the Ultra Gauge piece, BUT the UCON will "lie" to the ECU so the readouts from the UG may be slightly wrong due to the trickery that goes on with the UCON to prevent CELs and what not. All the magic happens in the EMS. Innovates are really nice and clean looking, but damn are they expensive for a gauge haha

Water temp, AIT, and trans temp won't be "lied" to by whatever tuning computer you have hooked up. At least it better not or you got some problems. If you can hook your ultra gauge straight to the ecu, it will read whatever the car is inputting. It doesn't care what car it's hooked to.

Gauges wont save your engine from destruction. Well, the failsafe can given you actually use it but they just read info. You reading that info can however save your engine. Faulty gauges or crappy calibrated gauges that give you false or no info don't help you save your engine. So then why have them? Boost, AFR, oil temp, oil pressure. Monitoring those 4 things on a boosted motor is very important if you care to try your best to prolong that engines life. I'd buy good gauges for that.

If your tuner can program a failsafe into your tune, good. If he can't, you probably want one. The innovate gauge is $200 but reads 2 functions and only takes up 1 gauges space. There are much more expensive gauges out there. You just spent $8 billion on a SC kit. 1, $200 gauge is worth buying.

haha I totally agree. The UCON has a "Guardian" program built in to protect the engine and limit the boost/pwr if it reaches some internal level to prevent blowing the motor (not like the stock "limp" mode but probably similar). So I think that's a good thing.

As for the gauges, I am thinking I want a separate boost and AFR just because a problem with 1 variable will ruin "both" gauges if in 1 unit. I also like the balanced look of the 2 gauges on the flexpod vs 1 in it. picky I know, but I like symmetry haha

The failsafe or "guardian" is not something you want to hit. That's good there's something in there for it.

So let me get this straight ..... You say the $200 dual function gauge is expensive but are ok with going with 2 separate gauges? Haha ok. I also gave you 2 dual function gauges so even worse, your way you need 4 singles and 2 gauge pods.

And no. A boost gauge has a supplied air line you directly tap into a pressurized line on your truck while AFR is read electronically through your ECU or straight from your sensor. They work independently. Power would have to fail to the gauge to shut off both. You can have false readings on one and not the other.

haha, naw. Ill have to verify, but the UG should cover the oil temp and pressure as well as intake temp (not sure about water temp and I know my UG will NOT do xmsn temp). So with the boost and AFR's installed, Ill have everything but xmsn temp. As far as the gauges that you suggested, which I appreciate.

I am now trying to find a thread on how to swap a fuel pump on these trucks since now that will prob be the first thing I do. I plan to make this conversion in 3 stages.

    1) fuel pump
    2) injectors, cam gears, UCON, thermostat
    3) S/C

After talking with Gadget, this seemed to be he best idea to help trouble shooting along the way (1 variable at a time makes it easy to diagnose) prob do it over 5-7 day period with a lot of driving in this time to make sure everything works as advertised

And yes, I'm tracking the guardian is not something you WANT to hit. . .but does sound like a challenge :burnrubber:

Haha you would do that. And the AEM gauge reads boost and AFR which is not read by the Innovate gauge or scan/ultra gauge (it actually does read boost in bar), the Innovate gauge reads oil temp and oil pressure, which the AEM or scan/ultra gauge does not read, the scan/ ultra gauge read water temp and air intake temp which the AEM or Innovate do not read and finally the ultra gauge reads trans temp which the scan gauge, AEM or Innovate do not read. Sooooooooooooo that's why I suggested a AEM Failsafe, Innovate MTX-D oil temp/ pressure and a Scan gauge.

    P.s.
I have an ultra gauge in my truck and an scan gauge in my car.

well, the EM1 UG does not do trans temp...ive tried. other models do so I think you are lucky with the model you have. other than that. . .sounds good! haha.

I have the newest scan gauge. I can't use the function but it has the option.

Yes. Never done it on your truck though. I'm interested to see how well your truck runs with it in and no tuning. My guess, not well. Surprised it's something he told you to do with nothing else done. The stock pump will flow enough to idle and drive with the kit hooked up. May not work the other way around.

so I am tracking there is a regulator between the injectors and the pump, which will decrease the flow based off need at the injectors. That way, nothing is rich under stock injectors with larger pump (only pumps more when it needs to kind of thing)

Walbro 255lph? Hmmmm....that sounds familiar for some reason...:boink:

If it were me and I was starting from no gauges, I'd probably prefer a wide band O2 instead of AFR.

Should be okay with stock injectors. The regulator will help some, and the ECU will just run the injectors at a low duty cycle. As long as they don't stick because the duty cycle is so low it should be okay.

Did he mention replacing the regulator with a rising rate unit?

Heres the gauge I got: http://www.aemelectronics.com/?q=pr...ies-wideband-uego-afr-sensor-controller-gauge. it is a wideband UEGO.

As for the pump, after talking to gadget and the rationale of whats 165$ to protect a fortune investment haha, I decided to add it on.

Driving with the new pump will also only be 1-2 days between swapping out the UCON and injectors, followed by another 1-2 days before putting the S/C in so its not like ill be heavy footing it around for a week alone ya know
