make my speaker selection easy

First going to uprgrade my head unit and then replace front door speakers. I'm confused now when it comes to replacing my front door speakers. I'm leaning towards 6.5 components or possibly a 6.5 mid driver(whats the difference). I was set on the Infinity Kappa but got convinced with the reveiws of Energy components. Listened and found them to bright for my liking even with the lowest crossover setting. Not enough mid bass. Then heard the Alpine SPS 600C and couldn't believe the difference. First off they have a lower db rating and they are cheaper in price. I found the tweet not to bright with a good mid range bass. I was set on these until someone mention the Polk Audio db6501 and Hifonics Zeus ZXi 6.5C. Specs look promising with amazing reviews but haven't heard them yet.

I'm looking at spending between $80.00 - $150.00 tax in. Looking for something with a nice tweet thats not so high pitch and a good mid bass driver Also plan on replacing the rears and running 12" sub all being amplified.

Any input for a newbie????????

I just got Alpine SPS 600C's in the front, and the SPS 600's in the back to go along with my JBL amp and JL Audio 12".

I chose the Alpine because it's what they had in the shop, and I didn't really feel like doing my usual hours of research online before I do anything.

I'm happy with the sound for the low price they are. I'm just using my old Sony Xplod deck, and I don't have an additional amp powering the speakers.

Overall they seem like decent speakers for the price, and they sound good in my access cab.

Definitely go 6.5" with tweeters, as opposed to a 6x9.

 

I just purchased the Polk MM6501's for my new Tacoma. I haven't installed them yet. I also bought some Dynamat, an Alpine Head Unit and a Rockford Fosgate punch 2 ch amp along with a Monster amp kit and speaker wire and interconnects. Hopefully I will get this all installed this coming weekend.

 

I have Polk DB 6.5 in my doors. Really like them.

 

if you have the newer tacoma i would say find a 6x9 two way or even 3 way for mid bass

 

Hows the mid bass on them. Looking for the tweet not to be so bright like energy speakers I heard. Did u sound deaden your doors? Any fitment issues?

The price/performance can't be beat for the Phoenix Gold RSD65cs speakers. Great tweeter and loads of midbass.

I've been told by the stereo guys that a component system of a 6.5 and tweeter, will always sound better than a comparable 6x9.

They said a 6x9 is more of a compromise.

Always been a fan of Alpine's price/performance ratio. Currently sitting in my Amazon wish list are the 600C's for the front, 600's for the back, and a 1023D (might change to a 1043D though), all from the Type-S line. I would have bumped up to the Type-R line, but the measurement seems to make both the speakers and sub a bit too large for my application.

 

Yes. There are quite a few people running them active with great success. Apparently they take gobbs of power too as long as you tune it right.

Those Phoenix Gold components are quite good and should be considered. I'll be honest though; I have a favorite component set and it's the Focal 165v1. I had a set of them in my IS300 and they were heaven. I think they are now called the 165vb (minor updates) but I really enjoyed them. I think those should be right around the same price range.

Yes, I did have to cut up the bins. Very time consuming. I love it so far. I had it for at least a year and it's giving me no complaints. Sounds superb.
