I wonder how many "problems" some people really have. Like is it a real problem, or a TW generated problem?

I think Bean said he was trading his truck. Sounded like he had some legit issues. Either way if the truck is making people that unhappy that they'd take a financial loss to dump it, it's not a good thing. I see a LOT of people on this forum dumping their turds.

I wasn't necessarily talking about him, just generally. And that still doesn't prove anything. People can be convinced of anything, look at the world we live in for proof.
I am not saying people are making up lies and these trucks are perfect.

No truck run is perfect. There's a vocal minority here that will tell you the third gen is terrible, turd gen, whatever.

I've had no issues with my Tacoma. Best vehicle I've owned. I'm not in the minority, I just have nothing to bitch about, so you don't see me bitching.

Most users here are the same way, but every time there's a "turd gen" thread, the same toxic users dump all over it. Some of them don't even have 3rd gens any more, they just post in here to complain. I don't get it. I wish I had that much free time. :notsure:

Not trying to complain about the Taco, just making other people aware of it. The Taco is also the best vehicle I've owned so far. I've had an 87 Supra, 2002 RAV4, 13 taco prerunner 4cyl and currently have an 16 Audi SQ5

The audi has had 3-4 recalls and piss poor design on all audi with the visor mirror breaking due to its small support with a thin piece of plastic. Possible solved with the new models rolling out??

Having a small leak in the cabin is minor to me at least...

I actually took out the back seats and checked mine yesterday. Gladly mine have been bone dry. While in there I RTV siliconed those gaskets around there and used air conditioning foam to block about 60% of the way across. It brings down the noise a little bit as those flaps are the flimsiest material that I have ever seen.

I love my truck but I will openly acknowledge that I am finding more and more places where they saved 5 cents here and 5 cents there. I know it adds up but I would have gladly paid $250 more for more quality components. I love modding and fixing things as it is the nature of my job; however I feel for those that will never take off a door panel, speaker grill, etc. If you are not someone that DIY you're basically fucked with this truck. I don't trust a service department to fix my rattle or minor/major problem better than I could myself. The only thing I can't do is do a TSB software update because I don't have access to the files. Otherwise I'd build a laptop just for that purpose.

@smitty99 is right though about the third gen overall. As a precaution I also RTVed my license plate lights as they commonly leak and my 3rd brake light. By the time I'm done I'll have reengineered or fixed everything that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place.

Yeah the problem is We did pay the extra 250$ and then some for quality but Sweers and Co. took it all as profit.

I think it's all in what you call a "problem."

The vast majority of these issues, I believe, are really a product of the sheer volume of trucks they're pumping out. Now, I too have been a victim of the TW bug... I didn't realize I had the rear end whine until I read about it on here... otherwise I probably would have never noticed it. But for the most part many "problems" can probably be traced back to poor quality control... one cant simply dream up water pouring into the cab.

However, while Tacoma seems plagued by "problems", I have yet to see ONE instance of complete and catastrophic failure. One of our Ford ambulances at work dropped a rod at 16K miles. Older (early-mid 2000) F-150s have an issue with blowing the spark plugs out of the block. I've never seen a Chevy transmission that I couldn't burn up. And DON'T get me started on Dodge.

Putting it in that perspective, I still won't be getting rid of my Taco any time soon, even if that means I need to deal with "problems."

Catastrophic failure such as CPS sensors failing in the middle of the highway or rear diffs locking up on interstates? We have seen plenty of instances of that here. In fact the problem was serious enough that Toyota issued a recall for over a quarter million vehicles.

    Let's be real.

I think a CPS sensor needing replaced is less catastrophic than a motor blowing up... it might be a little emotional when your truck dies, but certainly not catastrophic mechanically speaking.

Edit: please remember too that "recall" is basically a term used when a company is trying to appear proactive. 250,000 recalled doesn't mean 250,000 vehicles are involved it means they don't know where the breakdown occurred and would rather redo all the vehicles in a given time frame than wait for a lawsuit... see GMs ignition issue for a nice case study!

Would it not be premature to call your Truck the best vehicle you have ever owned as its a 2017? At this point I would probably have to pick my 08 Tacoma as my best Vehicle as I had it 7 1/2 Years and a couple of Lightbulbs is all I ever changed outside of regular maintenance. Hopefully my 17 will go that long with no issues too and maybe I can label it as better than the 08 was.

I also hope you know @smitty99 I'm not about to go toe to toe with you... you have more bad on your truck than I have good on mine!

Im only a second gener here, but will Toyota even consider looking into this? I would think they would, but in the event that they don't you could always remove the 3rd brake light and see if you can see a leak? My thought process is to fix this like installing an aftermarket roof rack by installing silicone? If so, it wouldn't cost much at all to get a tube and a screw driver to remove the 3rd brake light and fix it up.

It is unfortunate that this is yet another item to add to the increasing list of 3rd gen issues. Hope things work out op.

Hopefully all goes well. The dealership I've trusted since 1987 was been awesome until recently when they lost my TPMS of my team trails when I traded in my 13 Taco....

Im sure its worth to let them do their process since I assume your ride is under warranty and would suck if messing with something like this could void that. At the same time, if they cant provide any positive results, then I would take it upon myself at that point to get it taken care of.

OP, I just noticed you are in VA...Im up in northern VA if you are close I could look to meet up with ya to help out on this if it doesn't get worked out.

Sounds good buddy...BTW if you are local to the northern va area you could always introduce yourself to the folks around here in this thread. We have a few groups that are somewhat regular about getting together and installing stuff. Speaking of which, I am helping out a buddy on here on Sat to get his lift on.
