Idiot Lights Staying Lit

When I started the engine after installing a set of PIAA 540 fog lights, the idiot lights for ABS, Brake & LSD remain lit constantly. I disconnected the battery for a couple hours but nothing changed. I checked ABS #2 fuse and it seems to be OK. What caused this problem and how do I fix it?

 

like the parking brake light? Is the VSC off light on or off?

 

How exactly did you power your lights? Did you clip or splice into any wires? Did you disconnect anything to get it out of the way for the install?

The VSC light is on.

 

The kit included a black wire and white wire for power and gound to the lights. Both included eyelets. I put both connections on a lug at the battery. The power for the relay was installed on the green wire at the driver's side running light. The kit included a clip to tie into the green wire. Nothing was disconected.

 

Thats weird...none of these should have anything to do with ABS. I do know that if ABS is not working then VSC will not work since its dependent on ABS.

Just to be sure, try disconnecting the green wire from the relay and seeing if that cures your problem.

How did you route the switch?

 

To get the switch wire through the firewall, I made a hole through the boot covering the wire harness.

I got another response to my thread from someone that had the same problem after installing foglights. The dealership replaced a "shorted out frozen" brake actuator. It seems more than a coincidence that we both installed fog lights and then had the same problem. I still have more work to do on the foglights because they won't work when the driving and headlights are on. Did you happen to read my other thread about power to fog lights?

 

If you have DRLs these turn off when the headlights are on. If you spliced into a DRL for the relay then thats why its not working when your headlights are on. Check and see that whatever bulb you tapped the relay into is lit when your headlights are on. You might want to look into the foglight anytime mod.

Did you check the wiring harness around where you ran a hole through the boot?

 

So the first thing to do is disconnect all the wiring that you installed for the fog lights. Make sure everything works normally when your lighting wires are disconnected.

It is not a coincidence that you're having problems right after you did some mods. After you verify everything works normally, re-connect your new light wiring, wire by wire, and see what connection is causing the problem.
