I'd say it's way too much weight for the factory sheet metal roof. I'm sure you could do it, but you're talking at least 600lbs.

Most people install these on heavy duty racks that are mounted to the truck bed, not the cab.

Personally, I will never mount one to a roof top.

 

Figured I'd drop in and say these tents are absolutely fantastic! I've been living out of my Ayer Sky for many months now and am impressed to no end. This thing has gone everywhere and stood up to all the abuse that I put my gear through. Absolutely phenomenal, nice work @TepuiTents

dropped a deposit on a Autana, should i really look hard at the Ruggedized version? I went from stock to Kings and glad i didn't waste time on spacers, billys, etc. Should I just go big on the tent to? Hopefully when I get to Tepui I can check out both versions and see in person the big difference. Thanks for any input Tepui and TW!

 

The Ruggedized models have higher quality and more durable materials. If you want the heavy duty aspects of the Ruggedized, and you plan to use the tent regularly and/or in more harsh conditions then the extra cost is well worth in IMO. That being said, the standard models are not some cheap version that won't hold up. They are quality tents as well, but you'll just get more with the Ruggedized.

Lots of rack options that will work with the Ruggedized XL.

Nice. I love the blue! Kinda wish Tepui would offer the blue on some of the other models.

 

I use a Big Agnes Dream Island 15 in my RTT, which is roughly the same size. At $249, it makes your $180 Tepui sleeping bag a much better deal. Looks nice and warm too.
