I have a 96 Taco that I feel I picked up from a friend for deal I couldn't pass up. I also have a 2002 Coleman bayside pop up rated about 2600 pounds dry. Camper has trailer brakes and antisway bar. Tacoma is 4x4 xtra cab 5speed with the v6. Truck has about 6 or 7 year old leaf springs on it.

Few questions. Can I tow it safely at 70 down the highway, obviously with trailer brakes hooked up?

If this was yourself, would you purchase a weight distribution hitch for it? If so, recommendations for a reasonably priced model.

I have a 2500 suburban but it has 250k on it and is mainly used for the real brutal labor and not much over 55 which I'm currently using for the camper but would prefer the lower mileage tacoma, if feasible.

Also read the towing guide on here but the link for the first gen section isn't working. Are they talking about a gas charged bump stop replacement?

You'll be fine, even without a weight distribution hitch. The truck I believe has a 5000 lb (might be more) tow rating so just make sure you have a good Class III hitch and the proper wiring for brakes.

It doesn't have a toyota towing package but did have a hitch installed by previous owner from uhaul.

My main concern is that the truck sags a bit more then I'd like.

That is common, the Toyota leafs are shit.

Correct it with either an add a leaf, a new leaf pack from Dakar, or do air bags.

You might want to check the tire ratings on the camper before towing it at 70mph.

Most trailer tires are rated for 65. Most people don't care

But the truck is fine, no wd hitch needed for that weight. Tacos sag if you toss the owners manual back there, it's normal.

It's not a terrible sag since the springs were replaced a few years ago but I'd like a more normal level look if I'm traveling 150 miles or more each way.

Any good recommendations for add a leads that I could potentially pick up locally at a chain parts store or the like?
