Looks like fun but a little too risky with a $40,000 truck. Any trails not as crazy?

There is a trail rating system that rates from 1 (no 4wd needed) to 5 (lockers, over 37's, ball of steel, sheet metal damage). You just choose the trail that you feel comfortable running. I think Ardbeg is like a 2-3...

Slided into the tree, too muddy it was there. Plus turning a long wheel base between the trees is a challenge that sometimes ends with dents. I even had to close my mirrors to pass at some places.

Tell that to @Jake4848 with his 2017...
My truck seen worse, there is nothing that spray paint and buffing can not fix, just takes a time. Lol

If you stick to the main (hydro line) trails in Ardbeg, they are not crazy and completely do-able in a stock truck. And the only damage I got on the trails we did were some light scratches from tree branches. I'll be buffing them out when I have time.

Well I am lower than stock lol, that is my real issue. Sure I can do the hydro-line route if I dont mind bashing off the skids, but I just dont like doing that.

In my opinion Ardbeg is not for the 'stock truck, newbie to off roading'. Sure there are trails you can take there that stock trucks are capable of, but there are so many places to destroy and damage your truck when you are not exactly sure of what you are doing. When you do not get to off road as much as you want, and get excited when you get out on the trails, it is so easy to make mistakes when you are in a place like Ardbeg, just look at @Thyces. One split second and then the 'fuck why did I do that' sets in.

Well said. When I am able to get back onto Of4WD I will post up a run thats on the 1-2 scale. Maybe start off with 1 and work our way up. However I am only going off what the site says, so I can always scout it out prior to. See how she goes. Thats if guys want to get their tires dirty but don't want to necessarily go the Ardbeg route.

Issue with ardbeg is that its all based on what your comfortable with. I was in the same boat as you @llamasmurf but then I went back lifted, as I didn't like the bashing either. Totally cool with having runs that cater to everyone. I am just happy to get in the truck and drive!

I remember my G1 exit test... Almost flipped Corolla on it's side, 2 wheels in the sky, still passed. A year later same guy examines me on my G2 exit test. We had some laughs about it.

all comes with lines you take.

but Ardbeg is rated as a 3-3+ on OF4.
Minden is a 2-2+ but many say it should be a 3.

    fuck it here

Best way for someone new that's worried about damage etc, get an OF4 membership for roughly $50 a year, gets you free access to all the trails at south wind. A lot of them are fine for beginners.

I haven't wheeled for a while so definitely going to be rusty but whatever. For us, its just be careful, make sure to have a spotter and just take it slow.

Before anyone goes on those trails though in that link I posted I recommend seriously getting an OF4 membership. It means you can also get the updates on those trails about condition etc and if they are even open.

Most people repot after a trip if parts are washed out etc.
Not sure if that one updates. But RED and X are no go. Do not go as you will be trespassing, and that ruins it for everyone as it just gives fuel to those that want us bared from the trails.
