The seat belt chime on my 2007 could be disabled using a certain pattern of turning the key, latching and releasing the seat belt, etc.. Not the case on the later second gen models. Called a dealer today about it. The service manager said he'd be willing to give it a look to see if it can be disabled, but he said they aren't able to do it on all Tacomas and even if he had the VIN he wouldn't know without plugging in a computer. Does that sound right? I assume this isn't something that can be done any other way?

I don't care about disabling the first chimes when starting the truck, just the constant chiming after the initial set. If you're using the truck around farm fields and around home, where you have lots of in and out of the truck, the chime gets annoying fast.

I'm not sure what year they changed it, but I'm not able to do it on my 2015. I want to say a while back I read it changed in 2011 or 2013.

Honestly the best and easiest way is to unbolt the seat, tilt it on its side, remove the seat belt buckle, untalented it, slide the guts out, remove the little spring that keeps the device telling the system its buckled from keeping the circuit open, then the next time you buckle it th circuit stay closed when unbuckled.

Sorry no pics but if done this on three Tacomas now and it's fricken genius!

Someone did mine for me with some cable, laptop and software but i forget what it was called. From what ive heard, some dealers do it for free.

Interesting. This dealer said it would probably be $50. I said I didn't want to spend $50 on it, implying I may just forget it. Then he said "well, bring it by and I can take a look". So I was thinking maybe it was something he was willing to do for less or free.

Yeah, that's what I figured it would take.

    They must round up...

If you read the user manual, it clearly states the dealer can turn it off. It's an easy option in tech stream.

I asked the dealer to do it when I brought the truck in for my 10,000 mile service. He said it would be a charge because it wasn't done the day I bought the truck. Then I told him not to do it and he offered to do it for free.

The dealer has to turn the chime off in a 2015 or you can buy a Chinese version of techstream on Ebay and do it yourself for $20-30.

its easy to disable via the techstream software. its literally hook cable up launch techstream and click off. The dealer should be able to do it on EVERY tacoma that doesnt have the ability to do it via the dash (i want to say 09+ maybe 11+)

Problem with this is it will turn the airbag on for the front passenger seat as the body computer goes ok, someones in the seat properly buckled. So if for example your dog was in the front seat and you put this in... no bueno.

if your dog is in the front seat, just put the seat belt on him.

either way, the proper way to do this is via techstream. There is also a way you can go in via an OBD bluetooth connection with putty and edit a hex value.
