I usually shift out of 1st around 3k.

What rpm/speed do you guys shift from 2nd to 1st? Seems like I need to be crawling so it doesn't feel like I'm forcing it.

I learned to drive stick on a 1st gen Ranger.

All depends on the scenario. Accelerating on a freeway? Around 4k. Pulling away from a stoplight? 2.5k. I'm a grandpa in my truck.

EDIT: Oh, just realized you were talking 2--->1. I don't shift into 1st until I'm at a dead stop. If I'm rolling at a low speed and I need to accelerate, I just start in 2nd and feather the clutch a little.

I often find myself in a situation where slowing for a red light, I'll downshift to 2nd, almost to a stop. Then the light turns green. Seems like I'm still going too fast to shift to 1st, but not quite fast enough for 2nd, so I'm down on power.

Otherwise I usually go from 2nd to neutral.

In that scenario I just put it in second and feather the clutch to get going. Otherwise I'll put it in first, start driving and immediately need to shift.

Damn dude you spin that thing out pretty good. I shift usually around 3 - 3.5k and only get to 4 -5k when rev matching/double clutching. I find that I shift out of first around 3k or sometimes I shift out of first even earlier just to get it into second where even if im at low revs with a little pedal coaxing I can get up to speed pretty quick.

I mean to each their own, but no need to double clutch until shifting into 4th as 1st through 3rd are synchronized. I always rev match, didn't realize that was a choice because I hate when the truck jerks back and forth during shifts so I try to avoid under or over-revving.

The whole gearbox is synchronized. If it wasn't you wouldn't be able to downshift without double clutching. You can downshift from 6th to 5th to 4th and so on without double clutching. I'm just saying if I'm in 5th and need to slow down and go to 3rd or even 2nd real quick ill rev match that and by doing so ill sometimes get up there in the 4 -5k range for a few seconds.

I made my tranny mount solid. Tired of the stick flopping around on dirt and grinding gears because of it. Motor mounts next.

@seecjackson on Instagram I put up a little video of it.

For those that wheel with a manual, what's the highest gear you've gone in 4LO? I've been up to 3rd at about 15-20mph. If there's a trail with frequent crawling, I don't want to be constantly be switching between 4HI and 4LO, so I try and keep it in 4LO. Just curious what others thoughts are.
