Got my Taco shined up so thought I'd hit the forum. I'm down to one key... anyone have an easier, foolproof, less expensive way to get a new key cut/programmed other than paying the 100.00 at the toyota dealer?

Is this key chip an option? Or are we/me just screwed with one key and no spare for wallet.

im pretty sure that all new tacomas have the transponder key with the chip. you can call the dealership and see how much an extra is. it may be worth the extra money to have an extra key on hand incase you lost one of them. i agree though....they are expensive as hell to replace, but sometimes, peace of mind is better in the long run!!:)

I went to Walmart and they offered to cut a new key, they used a device to determine that there is a transponder in my original. Walmart Warned me that it is possible that the key cutting of a key without a transponder using the transpondered one to trace - COULD disrupt the transpondered key and I may not be able to start my vehicle with my original transpondered key... a little confusing but I ended up not getting the key cut there. I think I'll go to Guelph Toyota and get the real deal done for 100.00

Yea your best bet is to go to the dealer, if i ever needed a new key i will go there. 100 isnt bad the key shop by my house wanted 135 more than the dealer and told me he was cheaper so i called the dealer in front of him and then he goes i will match the price i was like ok whatever, i would still go to the dealer was down the street.
