Did you change the seat for the t-case too? How difficult is it to change these out? Want to do fluids soon myself and the seat and socket are pretty cheap parts so I might change them too, if it's not too hard.

Not on asphalt though..which he was..

He is probably fine, but still not good to drive in 4wd on dry asphalt at any speed.

Sure you can. Did he drive in a straight line? Even slight turns aren't enough to cause binding.

Driving in 4wd, on any surface at any speed, won't hurt anything as long as your not causing binding.

I just did the shifter seat & socket for the tranny. It was pretty straight forward, but the locking ring/nut was a pain in the ass. When installing, you have to push down and turn it so that the slot catches a pin. Mine was tight when I put the new parts in. So it didn't really let me push down far enough while still being able to turn it. After getting frustrated for a good while and hot (FL summers suck when working on cars.), I looked it up. There were people who made custom tools to do there's. I was using pliers and a flathead. I ended up filing the slot opening a little so that it could catch the pin.

EDIT: Here's a video. At around 0:55, it shows what I am talking about.

Yea I was on the highway coming back from the mountains. I looked down and saw the 4wd light on. damn near shat myself..lol. But no harm done

I rather not have it in 4wd on asphalt, regardless if its ok or not.

Definitely done some full lock turns in 4 low on dry concrete. I wouldn't make a habit out of it but it's hard to damage this stuff from a little misuse.

I'm hating my stock seats. Any recommended swaps?

Pretty much anything is better, save for seats out of an older Tacoma

    I've had seats from a 91 4Runner and from a 2000 4Runner

Eh, you could make the 2000 seats bolt up if you don't have stock 60/40s, but for both I took the time to cut and weld the brackets from the Taco on. The 00 Runner seats I didn't have to modify the inner most mounts at all though as that part of the floor pan is the same between models. I'll dig up a picture or two.
