10 % off MSRP should be a lay down even for a Toyota. 15 % off MSRP is doable if you know how to negotiate with dealership sharks. On occasion I've seen 20 % off MSRP.

I'll bet you $100 you didn't get anywhere close to this price, you're either mistaken on what OTD means, you live in 1 of 5 states with no sales tax, or you're lying.

Either way you're just setting people up with completely unreal expectations based on bullshit.

    MSRP $34,428
    Invoice $32,9xx

To get to $32k OTD in an average state the sales price would need to be $29k+++, that means getting this car for $3,900 BELOW INVOICE. If you post your sales contract where you paid $3,900 below invoice (you claim even better LOL) on a brand new Tacoma I'll paypal you $100 right now. But you won't, because you didn't pay anywhere close to that....

Depending on region getting a Tacoma for invoice is considered a good deal. Getting $1k below invoice is extremely difficult but not unheard of. $2k+ below invoice and someone is a liar liar pants on fire unless there's another piece of the puzzle they're not sharing (extremely UAd tradein, lot damage, etc...)

    No you haven't.

I'll make you the same offer as the other bullshitter on here. Show me a sales contract with a sales price of $5k below invoice on a Tacoma (that would be 20% off msrp) and i'll paypal you $100 RIGHT NOW.

That's within $500 of what I paid for my 2016 DCSB TRD Off Road with the towing package and manual transmission.

I say that only to give you a point of reference. It's only worth what you're willing to pay.

Trucar is a joke. It went from helping the consumer to helping the car salesman.

Invoice is a marketing tool invented by dealerships to make buyers believe they're getting a "deal". Dealers final net cost paid for the vehicle is much less than "Invoice".

When you go out to eat do you pay what you would pay at the grocery store? No, people have to get paid. Your argument is irrelevant.

I can't speak for Toyota because they are super tight on sales (mine was about 10%) but 20% of is typical for Ford and Chevrolet, I've seen as high as 30% off sticker for some F-150s

Nothing wrong with making a fair profit. There's a reason the owners of Auto Dealerships are always the wealthiest people in town. You don't become that wealthy by offering value to customers.

yeah but we're specifically talking about Tacoma's on here so throwing around domestic #s isn't relevant.

Domestic trucks and SUVs have stupid high MSRPs which is why they need to throw massive incentives at them. Its similar to what Amazon did on "prime day" an item SHOULD sell for $10 and normally sells for $10, then on prime day they post the same item for $15, charge $10 and people think "wow I got 33% off!!" when in reality they're just paying what it should go for in the first place.

So with VA sales tax at 5.3 and other fees (tax, title, doc, and etc...) you will be roughly be at $34,968 OTD. Tell them you want to be at $33,500 OTD. You may get it there if not probably $34k. Are u trading, putting anything down or buy extended warranty/gap?

10% off MSRP should be a given since it's built in already. At 10% off MSRP they are still laughing all the way to the bank.Tacoma Fan boys willing to overpay at all cost have made it difficult for the savvy buyers.

    This isn't true at all.

Invoices matter, flooring costs, profit and all accounting is based on invoice. Putting it in quotes like its some made-up # is just ignorant.

There is universal holdback and some MFGs have "trunk money" like BMW, others occasionally have "dealer cash" like Honda. But on a Tacoma true dealer cost is literally invoice less holdback and holdback is paid out quarterly. Holdback on a Tacoma is like $600-$700 so if by "much less" you mean 2% of MSRP yeah I guess you're right, I wouldn't consider $700 on a $34,000 truck to be "much less" though.

Take subcompacts and its even worse. A Toyota Yaris for example has like $600 markup and around $300 holdback so anything below $300 under invoice on a yaris is quite literally losing money for any dealership, which they do all the time.

How is 10% "built in"? There's like a $1,500 markup between MSRP and Invoice on Tacomas plus another $600 or so holdback. Total that's about 6-7% total profit. You think a dealer is laughing all the way to the bank when they LOSE $1k to sell the best selling small pickup on the market (that's what 10% off would be)??

Admit it bro you have no idea what you're talking about.... You're purely speculating.

You Guys made me laugh. I needed that after the day I had today.
    • 1st I'm no liar.
    • Bull Shitter.....Maybe....While I may bullshit I do not blatantly lie.
    • I didn't say every time I made a dealer an offer they accepted. But most times my offers while well below average were fair and were accepted.
    • I also didn't say what deals I made on any of my Tacoma's or that all my deals were or on Tacoma's or for that fact even Toyota's
    • What I did do was offer an opinion to a fellow TW follower based on what I would do in his situation based on my experience. Would my advise have worked? Maybe not. But, the end of a slow month..New car sales slowing.. Repeat customer.. You just never know what might happen if you play your cards right. The worst thing they can say is no. But many times maybe a few hours or even a few days later they're saying Yes,Yes...
