Does anyone have a legit dog crate setup? Something that isn't hunky built? I have two German Shepherds both between 70-90lbs. I plan on putting a cap on the bed but still want the dogs secured in a crate. Haven't been able to find many options due to the inside of the wheel wells only being 40"

Oh - my 70lb German Shorthaired Pointers had plenty of room in these when I had them.

Looking for something that is more secure. Something like a ruff tough kennel or impact crates. The wire crates don't offer much protection in the event of a crash.

If you are worried about protection in the event of a crash you should keep the dogs strapped in with a harness in the cab.

Look at gunner kennels if you're wanting safety. I would like one, but I can't spend that much money on a crate at the moment

Yep. Expensive they is. Cabelas may have compararable house-brand stuff no they give MIL discounts.

2xl ruff toughs fit side by side perfectly. I use them to transport my two Malinois. Plenty of room and much safer than the cab.

I have 2 of the Remington kennels. One for a Beagle and one for a Viszla. I have the larger one for the Viszla and a smaller for the Beagle. In the back they fit side by side fine. If needed you can fit the larger crates for 2 Shepards. Just a heads up if you do that near the cab I'd get some piece of rubber or foam on the part that makes contact with the metal. After a few months of having the kennels in and strapped down I noticed a slight discoloration where the kennel was making contact with the bed. Easy fix though. Other than that best set up I can come up with that won't break the bank. Also I use 2 1,000 lb ratchet straps to secure the kennels. They aren't going ANYWHERE.

To bad you are not around southern Illinois. A nice dog box with storage on the top for $550.00 at Greenup, IL.

I am yet to email Rough Tough Kennels, but I plan to bolt 2 larges together come winter time (using their kit). It'll be a tight fit, which depends how much of a gap is left between the two units after being bolted together.

Let me know if you get an answer from them. The bottoms are tapered, and should fit between the wheel wells provided the bolt kit minimizes gap in the center.

Only have one right now, this was from winter time.

Rough Tough with Mud River insulated covers as in the post above. 2 large fit side by side and with a rubber mat, don't move at all.

Do you guys have any worry about the dogs getting cold in the winter or having issues with CO2? I have a 50 ish pound short hair Mountain Curr. I am from Wisconsin and have an 8 hour road trip for the holidays and wanna make sure my pup is good to go. I have open wire kennels as well as the tougher plastic ones. My current plan is to strap the kennel down with some blankets and what not inside to keep her warm.
