Scenario: I daily drive my 2016 Doublecab 4x4 SR5 with the crappy firestone passenger truck tires (245/75R16) and I'm sick of throwing it into 4x4 to get out of wet grass on the weekend. I've been looking at BF(My bad) BrO2s for while due to all the positive reviews on various websites, but they seem to get a bad rap here. I'm okay with increased road noise, but I don't want it to be obnoxious. I also don't want to waste really good tires if I'm only going to weekend warrior them. Also I'd definitely like to go bigger than what the OEM size is if possible. What can I get away with? Recommendations?

michelin bro2s? lol michelin is the LTX, the KO2s are bfgoodrich. but anyways.
I have the duratracs in 265 70 17, love em.
And they don't become completely useless as soon as there's a little rain on the pavement like the KO2s.

the Michelin I hear are great on road, but not sure about the off road use.

Yeah, my bad. I've been starring at tires too long today. I definitely would take some grip on rainy roads over offroad performance as that's where the majority of my driving happens. I appreciate the recommendation!

in all fairness the duratracs aren't amazing on road in rain. just much better than the KO2 and a great off road tire.
but the Michelin LTX is supposed to have great on road performance.
I think there's a few coopers that are great on road as well.

When I test drove the zr2 the duratracs handled great and low noise for off road tire and looked aggressive still. When I get my 18 it is one I am considering depending size offered.

    I don't 4 wheel but all I buy is Michelin LTX2.

Ride great, quite and last a long time.

where did you find these magically quiet duratracs?

lol they are low compared to mud terrain and some other A/T but holy fuck are they still noisy. Not as bad as KO2s but still.

Are you leaning more towards an all terrain or a mud terrain tire? If you do minimal wheeling an AT might be better for you. My old hauler came with Nitto Terra Grapplers and they rode well with minimal noise and gave decent traction. If you're looking for something more aggressive I've had good luck with my BFG KM2's. Goodyear MTR 2's are also excellent. If I ever decide to switch from 255's I'd go back to the MTR's.

Probably best to determine the size you want first and then look at your options from there.

I've had nitto trail grapplers, toyo open countries and now my ko2s bros. The ko2s have been the best in performance hands down, anyone that tries to crap on their performance has never had them or has had the old version that had some hydro planing issues. They handled record snow in Jersey with ease and monsoon rain here in AZ without a hiccup. Only complaint is that they only come in an E option for 16'' which means 53lbs a piece, heavy ass tires, great for off-road, quiet on road, but you will feel every damn bump and jolt. Handling wise though, there's a reason for all the good reviews, why they're factory on the new raptor, etc.

Very affordable and perform well on/off road and they are relatively quiet. Can tear em up and buy more and not feel bad about it.

How do you use the truck 85% of the time? That's what you buy tires for.

Guessing pavement and occasional light trails? Michelin.

In a 255.85.16 on your stock wheel you'll fit w/o rub or need for lift, and be just as tall as the 285 kids who have to pound and cut. After a lift. I'll find a reference thread on that for you

Watch the unsprung weight. Weigh your tires/rims you are coming from to what you are going to so there are no surprises.

Can some experts chime in here. If he were to go to a 17" from his 16", would he not be wise to get a very low weight rim here, lower than what factory he has, if possible ($$$) ? Cost effective ?

+1 Running these on the f150 and ko2's on the 4runner, like them both performance wise, like the price tag a lot better on the falkens

i have 15.8k on the OEM Firestones....they have been great on pavement and very little dirt driving.....quiet and still look new...probably will get 60k....i was wondering about the Michelin, but they are more expensive and i wonder what the benefit would be.....when time comes, i will again compare theses two..

Definitely leaning more toward AT. Honestly, I've seen people say I can get away with up to a 265/75/16 on these stock wheels without having to trim or lift, but I'm not really sure what I can get away with/what is the smartest route. I'd like to go up for sure, but I don't want to bro out for no reason if I'm going to be on the road 90+% of the time. That would feel like throwing money away.

Bingo. Thanks for the recommendation. What size do you think I should go with?
