Completed this swap on saturday no issues at all with my 08 double cab TRD sport 4x2. Absolutely love it. Accompanied with SS lines, fell in love with the truck again.

 

Yes you need the shim kit provided in OP, and yes, this thread should be way more active than it is because it helps braking out so much compared to what you are spending.

 

So... with all new Toyota parts from my dealer this would cost...

My Local napa has the calipers that the Op listed for 92.99+ 50 for a core charge, so that would save you a little... thoughts?

To go back with original pads/rotors i'm looking a total of $205.18 including tax.

 

Everything is reasonable except for the calipers, imo.

 

I replaced everything the OP did with same parts for $500 with cores turned back in. Hard to beat that for better stopping power when replacing my stuff with stock was almost if not more than that. Sucks you can't find a better deal.

 

It'll be 537.78 including tax if I use the napa calipers and turn mine in for cores. I was wanting to keep my stock stuff incase i wanted to keep my upgrade parts when/if I ever let this truck go.

 

My dealer is great, they've literally given me stuff before because they didn't call me and authorize the repair before doing it. I tried to pay for it, because I would have let them do it anyways, but they just wrote it off and let it slide, told me not to worry about it. I felt kinda bad, it was over $100...
They also do great warranty work. I took my truck in one time and told them my front drivers side window motor sounded funny.... they agreed and replaced under warranty even though it hadn't yet failed.... that was a little over $300 that they covered... my warranty literally had days left and they could have gotten out of replacing it if they'd wanted. They also fixed my timing cover leak that same visit, it was $700 or so IIRC. We've bought 4 new cars from them in the last 10 years though.

 

If anybody tries the 5th gen 4runner calipers and rotors, you want 2010-2015 14WA calipers, the 2016 and up have the 14WB calipers. There's a thread about this here.

 

I have a drill bit specifically for the 16 tundras bolt size change, the spindle lifts from 15 prior use the smaller bolts.

So far I've had no issue drilling out aftermarket knuckles and wouldn't be afraid to do so for 5th gen t4r calipers.

 

Its not on there yet. I installed the kit I got from them as test to make sure it worked. I am finishing up the write up. The kit they plan to offer would include everything you need to install. I do not recall needing any brake shim to complete it. Rotors, Calipers, Pads, Backing Plate then also installed stainless lines F/R and swapped for a Race Brake Fluid. I will try to comment here with the details soon. Wife is having a baby so been delayed on getting this typed up. I have pictures and some video before and after the setup.

 

Indeed, the 14WA Caliper fits perfectly. It was an improvement not insane but you will notice it. Roughly 8-10% improvement.

 

So you're drilling/tapping for the larger bolts?

 

No tapping, the threads are in the calipers, just simply expanding the knuckle hole. Mostly for the stupid 4-6" lifts on Tundra. The aftermarket never keeps up with Toyota.

 

Ok, gotcha... I was thinking the threads were in the knuckle... maybe I'm losing my mind. It's been a while since I've torn into my front end though...

 

A bit overdue but just typed up my review/experience with the 4th Gen 4 runner swap that I test fit for @Low Range Off-Road. Check it out.

Nice upgrade for about 8-10% improvement with stock pads and affordable for everyone as it is only a bit more than replacing your stock rotors and pads, including stainless lines.

I have a stock 2014 DCLB SR5 Pre. I want to upgrade my brakes. My only concern is can I do this upgrade and then upgrade my suspension and wheels OR do i upgrade the suspension and wheels FIRST then do the brake upgrade? thoughts? ......

 

Wheels first. You will need to be sure you have big enough rims to clear the calipers anyhow. Then you can do brakes and then suspension if thats how you wish to go
