Well, I drove it to work this morning (75% of commute on freeway; 18 miles total trip), and the computer now says 17.1 mpg by the time I reached work. It was about 70 degrees out, so I'll have to see if it shows similar readings on the way home later today when temps are expected to reach around 107.

I've gotten used to driving with it on, since it feels like the truck has more of a pep in its step that way. Luckily, as other posters have mentioned, it will adjust over time
I had 3/4 in the tank at the time I drove it. the needle barely moved though, so I'm thinking the instrument panel computer is incorrect. But I think you're right, because the mpg was at 1 when I started the car. thought it was strange.
I've lost so much faith in dealers after joining TW, lol

I live in Phoenix AZ where it has been 110+ for the last two months and I get 19.5 mpg regularly.

At least you had some, I never had any luck, they just added more problems or at best didn't find any lol!

But if mileage becomes that bad a problem (other than just idling) you should see black smoke, engine missing, mil light on, raw gas smell like an old carburetor motor running rich or black stained tail pipe

    Glad things got more normal
    Cheers!

ECT completely unnecessary unless you drive like a clown, no offense.

If you're blasting your a/c because it's 100+ outside, isn't that killing your fuel efficiency too?

Where do you live/where were you driving OP? I know my truck gets pretty bad in the humidity, but this is a whole nother level of struggle.

I don't like feeling like I need to floor it to keep it in the power band and to get it to hold gears longer. Come on this is probably the most common criticism of this truck. Tons of people drive it with ECT on.

I have a 2017 TRD DCLB OR 4x4...completely stock down to tires and I'm VERY light on the throttle. I get in the 16s 75/25 City/HWY....something(s?) not right with some of these trucks...:(

Do you carry any payload? Hills?
I live in the Pacific Northwest (near Portland). It just started to reach temps over 105, and since this happened at the same time, thought there may be a correlation. Time will tell, I suppose.
How bad does your get when humid where you're at?

Nope....completely flat, no payload, only me in the truck 95% of the time, and no excessive idling...Toyota says it's "normal" :(

that's strange, because based on what I've read around here so far, you should get between 18 to 20 under those conditions. I know this might be a longshot, but has the dealer taken a look at it?

    There's your problem.

Short term numbers with these tools are more skewed that long term averages.

You're actually worrying about MPG over 15 miles?

not at all. My concern was that the mpg would stay this way over a longer duration. So far this morning, it looks like the instrument corrected itself over the 18 mile commute to work. Will test it out later today when it's supposed to be 107 degrees to see if the reading gets weird due to temperature again

I calculate mine with the calc app on my phone at every fillup. I suggest you do the same. I have ignored the trucks computer. I probably need to start comparing to see how close they are.
