Favorite Shocks

I'm curious what everyone runs for shocks. I currently have sky jackers ans i haven't had much luck with them. The first set blew out in a year and they replaced them. Its about time for some new ones so I was looking for some suggestions. I have the OME Dakar rear leafs so about 2" of lift in the rear. I don't do any serious offloading. I do like to play but I also drive 60 miles round trip every day.

 

I just put KYB MonoMax shocks on all 4 corners of my '01 Tacoma. I buy most of my parts at RockAuto.com, and they had a great deal on the MonoMax shocks, plus I had a 5% off coupon. They work perfectly for what I wanted, and mounted without a problem.

I have always had good, reliable performance from KYB shocks, and they have a lifetime guarantee, so I'm happy.

 

I was thinking about them but wasn't sure if they would be long enough with my lift. I have kyb's on my IROC and really liked them.

 

If you go to the KYB website, it tells exactly what the length and travel of the shocks are, so you should be able to find out if they will work.

 

why not get the matching ome shocks

 

I'd check the frame for structural damage from rust before I invested in shocks for it.

 

Select high-quality! Bilstein, Icon, Fox, King, Sway-a-way (AFE), etc...

 

X2 Your bumper is wasted... Tell-Tail sign of possible frame rust damage...

 

You mean my brand new (5 year old) frame that Toyota was so kind to replace? Not a spot of rust on it anywhere.

 

Thats why I was asking. Never ran them and I don't know anyone personally that has ran them.

 

I'd recommend the OME Nitrochargers as well. They're a very good shock, and were designed to go hand-in-hand with the rear leafs you're running. I've found that the Nitrochargers are quite comfortable on pavement and do well off-road too. Many people on here are running them.

Other good options: Bilstein 5125's in the proper length or Bilstein 5100's in the proper length (these shocks come in different lengths for different amounts rear lift)
I have no personal experience with the Bilsteins though.

 

The rear bumper is my next project though. I built a front one for it, almost have my custom skid pan done. Not sure what i'm going to do for the rear bumper yet. Might do a pipe one.

 

Agree with the nitro-chargers from ome. Paired with the Dakars you'll love it.

 

Hands down best bang for your buck (IMO) are Bilstein 5100's (but let's be honest, I'm a bit biased because that's what I have, lol), they are good for 0-3" of lift, are durable, and ride nice on and off-road.

I've been running them for 6+ years.

The OME's are easily just as well respected around here. The one difference is really just in the front shocks, as the 5100's are adjustable, and the OME nitro chargers aren't. So if you're getting a set of four, and you want some adjustability (in the front), get the bilstiens. I got mine from a vendor here (DSM) who offer a member discount and I got all 4 for $299.

If your favorite color is yellow, however, get the OMEs...

I have run stock bilsteins, KYB, and now bilstein 5100's. I'm very happy with the 5100's so far!

 

I had the 5100s on my last truck, gotta say wasn't overly excited about them......
Way to much roll around corners for my liking. I did like the adjustment factor, that was cool. If I was to do it again I would do the tundra 5100s. 5 way adjustment and a little stiffer.
5100s in the rear are good, just didn't like the fronts.

 

I got the rancho quick lift shocks and springs for the front overy the winter. I'm really happy with them so far. They are 9 position adjustable, hopefully they last. I have seen a bunch of mixed reviews about ranchos.
