oh, makes sense. I've heard of fluid coupling transmissions before but didn't realize modern auto transmissions did that. (I hate automatics). I thought they had synchros like manual...

You can "rescue" my 1996 if you want to come give me cash. I don't deliberately destroy them, but they do wear out just like any car and I'm hard on everything. It's not "operator error" if you realize you are hard on stuff and do it anyway, it's just living life to the fullest. My stress relief after a day at my job that I hate is doing some donuts in one of my fields and driving over some dirt mounds!

I had a camburg kit on the front of mine so didn't really have to deal with a weak front end. only issue I really had was when the tranny started slipping

I think the problem is you more than the truck, maybe you need to change your ways? You need to be an adult and learn to take care of your possessions. Do you "trash" your house as well?

I had zero issues with my Ranger but I used it as a pavement princess. One of my buddies though used the same model off road. Lifting it with the torsion keys meant everything worked against itself. 2" lift ended up breaking the front driveshaft twice until he had a custom CV one built. The rear differential stripped the ring gear which is when he learned that Ford made at least 3 different diffs for the Ranger and they went all the way from the piddly version taken from the 1980s 4 bangers too a full 9" half ton diff, and changing just one option on the sheet could give you one or the other behind the V6 engine.

im sure the 4wds had more issues than the 2wds. you don't really have to worry about anything when you have 17inchs of travel up front and everything is designed to take a beating (which it did) and yeah cranking on your torsion bars is a recipe for disaster

I wanted a Tacoma because they are known to last and parts are plentiful to make repairs and customize.

No doubt. LVDF makes a kit to long or mid travel the 4x4 Rangers but by the time you buy and install it you're out a crazy amount of money lol.

    Was yours a 3.0 or 4.0 L Ranger. Mine was a 4.0 and I didn't remember having that issue.

it was the 4.0 with the 8.8 rear end and it had 4.10s. I remember normal crusing speed on the highway I would be pushing 3.5k rpms

Well, it has to double as a commuter vehicle... (I know, seemingly mutually exclusive sets of use)
