Wow, some of that damage is ridiculous. I'm lucky to live where I do as my frame looks brand new still.

I remember them buying back the first gens at 150℅ KBB. I already have the payment so I think I'd take the check and use it for a very large down payment on a 2017 TRD manual trans.
As far as stress.....I for one have had my fill. Since March 2016 to today I have put 45,000 miles on my Yoter. Every one of those miles I was thinking about my frame.
I'm grateful that Toyota will replace them and all but I have to agree with Rusty Taco.
All the dealer's I called had no idea of this class action, especially the settlement. AND, when I went in June 2016 for my leaf springs to be replaced and inspection, the tech that inspected the undercarriage just checked it all off as good.
The fact Toyota jumped on a settlement out of court as to not draw attention from media nor have it classified as a "Recall" tells me they wanted it hush hush. IMO
Oh, and motor mounts?? One of my holes is directly behind the passenger mount, so if I were head on with something there is a very good chance I could make friends with a scalding hot, overweight, and pissed off, engine. It's scary.
Like was mentioned earlier...How many others are down here in the southern states who happened to buy a snowbirds old truck for a good deal and don't bother, or unable to, get under their truck?
Ugh, I'm still stressed. I know I'm gonna get a frame, but, now I just hope the techs can put the puzzle back together correctly and not miss any nuts or bolts...

Hey, no disrespect intended for the snowbird remark.. lol

I am in the minority here. My local dealer has been excellent regarding the frame lawsuit. They have kept me informed and updated as progress was made. And if they offered 150% of kbb I would probably take it.

It would almost be worth taking your truck to a more northern toyota dealer that has lots of practice doing frame swaps. I live in a small town of about 20k people and my tacoma was the local dealers 44th frame swap. Saying they are good at it is an understatement. 2.5 days and you're back on the road. The rentals were through a national chain, (enterprise) so I'm sure they could accommodate you with a rental location close to home.

Anyway just my opinion, I really wouldn't want someone doing this for the first time on my truck if I had the option to have a seasoned veteran doing the frame swap. It's a national campaign so it shouldn't be a big deal doing it in another state I wouldn't think.

I will definitely think about that. I'm a bit squeamish about them doing it already as it is.
I'm still gonna let them inspect it and get the ball rolling. The area and position I'm in, it may be my best option for the circumstances.

I know with my frame, once one dealer started the process of inspecting the frame and submitting photos to toyota for approval, you had to stay with that dealer.

Hmmm, too late to switch then. I'm up here at the dealer now. They're being excellent. They had me sit down and says to get comfortable and they will work around me. Some pretty good service so far.
I'll try to keep everyone updated as the process moves on.

They said they have not heard from corporate as of recent on this latest frame inspection except to look at frame . Probably qualify for rust preventitive application by September .

Check it out fellas. I got nosey and crawled under a brand new Tacoma. That little gap we have all been talking about...? Well Toyota decided to try and remedy the situation. Guess in 5-10 years we'll see.
They're making an attempt to make better. The 4-runner frame is boxed and completely different. The Tacoma is nearly identical to second gens. Makes me wonder if when Dana Corp went bankrupt, Toyota grabbed up a bunch of frame stock from them

They just took my truck from me...

The GM came out and said the obvious, "that is really bad."
Then says do to legality issues he's unable to release the truck to me.
There was no if ands or buts. He told the counter I would need a loaner and I requested a like vehicle do to my job field and again, he didn't hesitate to tell them I would need a truck.
So, there's no loaner trucks as of now. I'm waiting on a ride home till they contact me later.
The timeframe just to get parts was about a month. I'm anticipating it taking 2-3 till I get it back.
Man, the service was GREAT. I felt like VIP.

And on a side note as far as experience with this issue....
This dealer has replaced frames in the past. Nothing like a northern dealer would by far, but, it's a tad bit assuring that I am not #1 guinea pig.

Good to hear! It's nice to get a new frame for free, and toyota stepping up to the plate to look after you.

Get another inspection at a different dealer or wait until you really get a hole probably this upcoming snow season.

Good for you. its about time for you!!! your frame was bad man. Is that the same dealer you have been going to in the past or is this a new one???
You should ask about what they would buy it back from you for! just spark up the question with the manager!!

Thank you. Yes this is the same dealer.
I will be going back up there to pick up my loaner and will be mentioning a buy back, or at least a good down payment on a new one. Leaning towards a 4-runner.
I tell ya, I've contacted everybody and was told their hands are tied due to appeals, but since Monday everything has fallen right in place and in a very timely manner.

what does it look like near your cats? up behind your front tire??? on the Chassis mounts???

Cars and trucks are usually worse no the passenger side because road salts usually drain to that side of the road + when you park on the street at night it traps the moisture and salt in the cracks between the lapped metal.

That is funny you should mention. I had just thought about that the other day.
A quick Google search of anything ranging from Tacoma, Rust, Frame, Settlement Heffler, etc, etc, and TW pops up within the first couple spots.
    There's got to be... :spy:
I have a Facebook page out there too I posted and got a few friends to like.
Rusty Taco, you have your vids
    and pics:headbang:
It'd be hard to miss really. But then again, my dealer still had no clue. Lol, even with a international email being sent out about it!
    Go TW. :yay:
