Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

I apologize as I havnt read through this whole thing, but did you previously state what you do in your vehicles to whipe them out so quick? This forum is probably one of the best representations of proving what a taco can do with proper maintenance and a little know how. Many off road their rigs here and do pretty well for atleast the 5-8 year time frame. I know from the LT side of the house, guys can crack the shit out of their truck in all sorts of scary places, but that situation might not be relevant to the problems you have seen with your experience.

Everything will break down eventually. Toyota trucks seem to put up more of a fight than their counterparts.

I guess he thinks we should all beat on our trucks too to drive the value down, that way he can buy one for cheap.

If he has already broken 3 why would he want a 4th? Maybe a 1995 ford ranger would fit the bill a little better for the op. Cheap and more than likely has already had the snot beaten out of it by the previous owner so you know that it's fun.

    22k should find you something.

    I just recently picked up '12 Reg Cab 4x4, 2.7l, 5sp, 77k. $11.8k.

In my searching for that particular set up there were more than a handful i found. I would say they ranged from $8-10k, 2005-2008ish, 90-130k miles, ok-good condition... and then some $15-18k, 2010ish-2015, 30k-100k, good to like new condition.

There were very few 2010-2012 model, and i likes to design changes of the 2012 compared to my 2010.

If only 20% off road, i cant imagine there to be any excuse for a truck to last only a few year unless your driving and trying to break something.... my '12 will be a hunting truck and pull a trailer during summer for work... but off road for hunting, winter time in snow, and driving back and fourth hunting it fits the bill.

Because a mommy thread and a daddy thread loved each other very much... and now 8 pages later the nonsensical thread continues. :)

    I can't afford a 4X4. If that ain't a "1st world problem", I don't know what is.

Work hard, seek opportunity, put in the hours, get an education, you will have money for a Taco. If there's no opportunity where you live, move to a place that has opportunity, just like Columbus. People these days are getting so soft. Everyone wants something for nothing.

Too much education, too much debt. Could buy one in cash right now but saving cash for a house. It's a long term value/function question... just an existential rant basically.

I would love to know what "regular offroading" is

I've been wheeling my truck for 5 years and haven't broken anything despite running 5+ rated trails

Well, driving around rutted fields and forest roads mainly... beats me what other people do. I never joined a "club" and don't even know what trail ratings are... off-roading for me was never social, just therapy. they have ratings like rapids do?

If they handed out bans for a minor rant like mine, I'm pretty sure there'd be nobody here left to ban anyone else because everyone would be banned.

still not sure it doesn't apply. :) I wouldn't want to be part of a group of people that are that easily offended, (which I don't think most people here are), but if the powers that be see fit to ban me for that I make no apologies and have no regrets.
