Hey, that's a good truck you're lining up right there. What color?

Ok enough trying to shut down these bullshitters on here with fake #s. I'll try to actually be helpful to OP.

OP you've basically been offered invoice. Depending on your region and how rare the model of the truck you're looking at is that's either already a fantastic deal or there's $500-$1,200 TOPS left to be had and that would only happen in a super competitive market like SoCal and on a standard build that almost every dealership has.

Without knowing all of those factors no one on here can tell you how good of a deal this is. Go for another $1,500 if you get it you're within a couple hundred dollars of the lowest price ANYONE on here paid for their truck, no matter what BS they try to say people lie on forums all the time about what they paid I guess it makes them feel smart or something.

We'll put it this way I paid $1,500 under invoice which is still the lowest sales price I've ever seen (people say they've got lower but every time I offer them $ to post a sales contract they go silent).

However my deal is NOT normal, I worked for Toyota dealer for 5 years and was the #1 salesman in my entire district for 3 of those years, Toyota even flew me to NYC for the auto show where the new Tacoma premiered. So I wouldn't expect a normal consumer to get the same deal I did, I sold over 1,800 Toyotas in my years with them, I SHOULD get a better deal, and if you get another $1,500 off you'll be at the same deal I got, so don't be disappointed if you don't get there. Even if they don't budge at all from what they offered paying invoice on a brand new Tacoma is NOT a ripoff anywhere in the country, but certainly doesn't hurt to go for another $1k-$1,500. Honestly countering with any lower than another $1,500 and I think you'll be LESS likely to get them to move because it would just be an unrealistic lowball. But that's just my professional opinion as someone whos personally sold hundreds of Tacomas.

Not to completely jump on this band wagon, but I believe some dealers inflate their MSRP. I have roughly 20 Toyota dealership with an hour to an hour half drive from me. You search each website and you will find at least 10 of the 20 have the exact matching truck with packages; however, each one will have a different MSRP listed. Then they will typically have a dealership discount off that price.

Now 20% off a new Tacoma I doubt it as in some cases that's $5k-$8k. Trying to get $1k to $1.5k under invoice is doable.

Never hurts to try. Worst they are going to say is no. Depends on how bad they want to sell and how bad u want to buy

Its federally illegal to change MSRP, the MSRP is set by the manufacturer and they're standardized by law so that dealerships close to factories don't get better deals than ones across the country. Same thing goes for factory invoice.

What you're seeing is called an "addendum" which absolutely happens, but if you look closely its always posted next to the actual window sticker (MSRP), if its not you should report those dealerships to Toyota they'll get in serious trouble.

This is also why its recommended to work prices relative to factory invoice, those #s don't change and can't be messed with and it standardizes your shopping so you can look at the RAW DEAL as some cars have options others don't, so getting a dealer to agree to a set price relative to factory invoice cuts out a lot of the confusing #s like addendums, options, and accessories.

One dealer might offer you $36k on a TRD OR 4X4, another dealer offers you $37k, the first dealer is the better deal! Except wait the second dealer's truck has running boards, tonneau cover, tow pkg, all weather mats, and a roof rack... suddenly dealer #2 is actually the much better deal.

I agree it never hurts to ask, I just don't want OP having unrealistic expectations from bullshit #s on a forum. If OP listens to some of these jacks in here he could get $1,500 below invoice and STILL feel like a sucker even though he would have paid less than 99.9% of Tacoma owners. I just want to set a realistic expectation so if he gets a really good deal he'll feel good about it, as he should.

I didn't mean to call you a liar that's why I left it as just a possibility, which even that is useless so I shouldn't have said it at all. I did read your message wrong, I assumed you were claiming to have received those prices. I honestly just assumed you just didn't take taxes into account in "OTD" which is where most confusion when discussing ""OTD" prices happens.

I also don't mean to try and shut you down as you're right sometimes incredible deals do happen so shooting for the moon doesn't hurt, cuz even if you miss you're among the stars right? Or something like that :D

I'm just trying to make sure OP doesn't feel like shit after scoring a good deal. Depending on his region he might already be at a great deal, if he gets another $1k off ($1k below invoice) he'll be in fantastic deal territory by any standards, but if he's expecting 20% off and only gets 9% off he'll feel like shit despite scoring an awesome deal. When people get smoking deals I want them to feel GOOD about it, but you know the ironic part?? The biggest mooch customers on earth that pay absurdly low prices and then still want you to throw in a key chain and hat are usually the ones that feel like you ripped them off anyways and torch you on surveys. The customers that pay MSRP are usually the ones that love the salesman the most, give him a good survey, and refer friends. Its totally backwards. Not saying you're either one of these customers, you've bought so many cars God knows what you are, but I assume after going through the process that many times you're probably really reasonable to work with.

Anyways I probably came off a little agro in the first post hope this explains why I'm only trying to help OP.

It's a good deal. No harm in trying to negotiate a lower price but I also wouldn't obsess over getting the absolute best deal based on what people say here.

If you feel good about it, go for it

You have your priorities now with your children. Mine are grown...and they do grow up fast.
And as far as trading in BMW's for yotas. There's nothing wrong with that. My wife's car is nothing more than a fancied up yota.
And take a good guess what she traded in for it. :D

I think you were offered a fair price for this time of year (getting close to the close out for the 2017 run). I bought my new Taco 3 weeks ago after loads of research and using the email the internet managers method described elsewhere in this forum. MSRP of mine (TRD Off Road, 4x4, 6 cylinder, 6 speed manual, tow package, all weather liners/sill protectors, mud flaps/guards and bed mat) was $35,443 including destination, but not including sales tax and title. I paid $32,709 + tax...out the door. I have significant doubt that ANYONE has purchased a new Tacoma for 15-20% under MSRP. Ever. Unless it was hail damaged on the lot perhaps. During my truck research, I did look at F150's...and those were EASY to get 20%+ off MSRP...but no way with a Tacoma.
I am a fairly good negotiator and was not in any hurry (entire purchasing process from 1st test drive to pick up was almost 6 months, so I was not rushed in my decision.) And, my market is not a super hot Tacoma market where prices are inflated (like SoCal)...I am in Indiana. I cannot imagine I could have done much better than I did which did come in a few $100 below factory invoice.
    Two notes:
    1) The invoice and MSRP prices currently shown on the 3rd Gen Master price list are close to right, but prices did go up a little since this was first published here...base price and invoice was off by about $100-150 on the base model I bought and the options prices were a few dollars more ($5-20 each) for the most part. Tow package was still accurate as was mud guards and bed mat. So use those numbers as a very close guide, but not 100% currently accurate.
    2) You will be very happy with the 6 speed manual...I know I am. I extensively test drove both auto and manual (close to 100 miles on each test drive.) So I made a fairly well informed decision. I could have lived with the auto, but I love the manual...shifts beautifully from my experience (now 1,000 miles into her.)
    Enjoy your Taco!

There are a lot of numbers thrown out here on what people paid.

What would be incredibly helpful would be negotiation tips on how to get those numbers.

Aside from looking up invoice online, when you are in front of the salesperson in their office, what tips are suggested to get a lower price?

Walk away and contact them a week later, throw a temper tantrum and yell "I wanna pay only X$ for this truck"? What? Throw me a bone here guys.

    Buy at months end.
    Buy at years end.
Buy at model year close out.
Negotiate price. Not payment or trade. Once price is agreed on then you can work on APR% and or trade in.
Have financing arranged before visiting dealership. This is sometimes good if credit is a problem
Don't be afraid to walk out.
Don't be pulled into an up-sale or bait and switch
Don't deal with a dealership that adds another window sticker beside the factory window sticker with additional costs.
    Research...Research...Research...
Never go to just one dealership.
If you have a trade in. Check on possibly selling it to Carmax or a Private buyer.

These are few tips off the top of my head.

I have purchased a lot of new (and used) vehicles over the past 40ish years since I turned 16 and could drive. In my experience, the method of buying a NEW car described in this Tacomaworld post: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/so-you-want-to-buy-a-tacoma.475482/
works best. If you are willing to put in a little time tracking responses, etc. and following this method to a 'T', it nets you the best price...it is certainly better than what I was able to get via Costco, TrueCar or Consumer Reports buying services, etc. that others here like. Of course, the method described takes more effort than those buying services as well. I was extremely happy with the method described, got the Taco I wanted at the price I wanted. The dealers who participated all understood exactly what I was doing and were happy to sell that way. I highly recommend it! No way I would have gotten as good a deal face to face at the dealership.
The key to it is following it to the 'T'...knowing EXACTLY what you want, knowing EXACTLY the invoice (which is easy to get here or elsewhere on line)...negotiating ONLY the bottom line price (not trade in, not financing, etc. until after price is negotiated.) And not wavering...be willing to walk away. I walked away from several options that were close to what I wanted, but not exactly what I wanted. I walked away from several options that were not the price I wanted. You cannot get emotional about the purchase or about the negotiations...or you hurt your ability to get what you want at the price you want...this method takes most of the emotions out of play.
    Good luck!

I used NADAdotCOM when I was researching invoice price, I also believe that if you use toyotadotcom and build the truck you are trying to get, you will get a MSRP type window sticker.

The year was 1994.I bought one of the last 22-R Hilux's ever made. 100 % made in Japan.Never experienced any of the nonsense that 3RD Gen owners are dealing with. 3rd Gen is overpriced for what you get.Huge profit margin in selling overpriced "Chinese made Tech"

The Hilux has been the most reliable and least expensive vehicle I've ever owned hands down.
